Hi all,
I have a couple of questions about lenses for the A80 PowerShot....

A little background at this point...
I have been involved in photography for about forty years... really. Started off like most and it ramped up from there... For about thirty years I have used Nikon 35's and some medium and large format cameras. I learned early on that good a quality lens is best thing one could purchase to ensure good quality photographs, I always use Nikkor lenses for Nikon for instance.

Fast forward to my need for lenses for the A80... I checked out eBay to look for a bargain and wow... how many lenses manufactures are there...??

I am interested in a wide angle and short to medium tele and these require the tube adapter, that is no big deal but the lenses are. The difference in price is huge, is the difference in quality equal to the disparity in cost...?

Do I buy the Canon lens or some aftermarket brand or what...? :?: :?:

Thanks,
rob

The old lens dilemma...... :?

I've had my share of cameras in the last 30 odd years, and every time again I had to make the decision of buying 'original' lenses or the Sigma/Tamron/Tokina etc lookalike.
Originals were more expensive, and the fakes didn't test that bad at all in the magazines.

In my opinion nothing beats an 'L'-lens for the (D)-SLR, but when you're not a professional photographer and there's no money-tree in your garden :P you have to be satisfied with the stuff you can afford. There are some tests at www.steves-digicams.com and the results aren't at all bad.

By the way; I bought the original Canon because it made me sleep better :? .

Yup, me too... Thanks to you guys for the input... I just called a bit ago to get the two lenses and an adapter... Canon.
I went back and forth over this like an idiot and then just said, don't be stupid...

Then I see the stuff on lensmate has the type that match the body color... figures. Are those Canon items...?

The glass is the big deal to me though...
Thanks again,
rd

I am going through this same problem myself. I have heard horror stories about the canon addons, they block the flash and the sensor. BUt they are made by canon...

then I hear good and bad about the lensmate stuff.

anyone here have any hands on experience with these two products?

Am currently waiting on the 37mm adaptor and Tiffen Teleconverter, will report once I've had a play.
