Ok not sure if anyone else has ever mentioned this before but I see a nice hole in the canon line up that needs filling. I think canon need to produce an f4 version of the 24-70 f2.8, we've got the f4 70-200 and 17-40, not everyone needs 2.8 nor can everyone afford it. An f4 24-70 would be great, a much better alternative to the 28-135 IS.
Would anyone else here be interested in it if it came along. 8)

I see some demands for a 24-70/4L.
Assume I have no lens at all and I don't consider 3rd party lenses. I might be interested for a 17-40/4L. It's DOF is quite large for this focal lengths even for f/2.8 lens. And it might be stopped down for landscape photos. I might be interested for a 70-200/4L since the DOF is smaller due to longer focal lengths. And this 70-200/4L can be used as a portrait lens. However, I might not be interested in a 24-70/4L. Instead, I might get a 50mm prime.
But it's only me. There may be some demands.

I wouldn't buy one personally.
But i would likely never buy the f2.8 version either simply because my ideal kit would be a long zoom,a wide zoom (or wide prime?) and the 50/1.8
I rarely see the point of normal zooms...
And this is the part where i dream up something I would love to see...A 100-300 f4 is L !! :D
Now THAT is something that would sell!

Well, there's always the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 USM with its aspherical element. One could paint a red "L" on it if they wish.
BTW, it uses the same 67 mm filter as the 70-200 f/4L.

It would make a nice set of three similar to the 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm set in f/2.8
Considering the 17-40mm f/4 quickly became Canpn's fastest selling "L" zoom,. I would think they may consider it.

The position that needs filling is a 200-400 f2.8L IS.

Well, I have no experience in big lens. (My biggest lens is 70-200/2.8 EX that I've got for a few months only.)
But isn't a 200-400/2.8L IS too heavy? And what's the cost then? (Hmm, perhaps the 400/2.8L IS may be a reference for the above questions.)
Is EF12-24/4L the missing lens for those 1.6x DSLR users?
