Okay, I was told the name of this bird by some of the many photog's that were out there shooting it today. Man, was there a lot of hardware in action for one bird. I want to say they told me it was an American britten?! Cool looking bird. Also had some hooded ducks out there today. These guy's look great. I can't wait to go back with better light. The sun hide in the afternoon and did not want to show itself again!!

Yea, it threw the pose down just like the Kaufman Field Guide book said. Stuck that head straight up towards the sky in order to look like marsh grass. Was cool to see this bird and even cooler to get the shots!!

Don, my first view of the Bittern! Very nice. Good series all around. We've been having the same type of cloudy weather in the pacific NW. What's the ID of the duck in the last two? I think I shot one like that last week--not quite as nice as your image though. Is it the Northern Shoveler by chance?
