I'm travelling today from home to a site in PA. Snow in upstate NY is way too bad to take that route so I cruise down the 401 TransCanada Hwy. 4 lanes high speed. Route through Niagara Falls and Buffalo into PA. Driving because is it actually faster than flying into where I'm going. (Emergency system call)

As usual, camera with the 70-200 occupying the passenger seat. Nicely protected by my camera backpack.

Key word is high speed. Usually above 115 kph.

Passing a minivan, look over in bush beside the road, gorgeous coyote walking down the snow bank. I'm in the passing lane. CRAP!! Nice thick white and grey coat, bright eyes.

Driving along and see something BIG sitting in a tree. Bright white breast. Owl or hawk. Check behind and stop as safely as possible and back up. Out of the car. Gone before I can swing the lens up.

Onto the 403 going into Hamilton, a grey hawk sitting on the merge sign for another highway joining the QEW. No place to stop.

Finally onto surface road through NY and PA. Don't see anything:confused:

Opportunities can get away from you. Oh well.

Yep...the other day, I was cruising at around 75mph, and yes, I was in the passing lane. I look to the left, and there's these deer. Just whitetails, but it's a huge buck followed by a few other smaller ones. They're wading across this swampy area, but it's almost still on most of it. The sun is setting, and there's those nice burnt orange, purple, and red colors in the sky, and the sun right behind them just atop the hills. Perfect reflection on the water. Naturally, I couldn't stop.

That f'er would have been a prize winner, I tell you.

I have definatly had those days. Most of the time when it happens to me because I don't have my camera or the battery's dead. It's very frustrating!! But oh how nic it is when you do get the photo and it's almost alway ends it a beauty.

That Coyote shot would have been worth the agravation of this trip. 10 hours travel on what was supposed to be an off weekend.

Really nice to see though.

Take what bonuses we can, right?

How about a time you see a rainbow and your batteries are dead? Happened to me yesterday.

If it were fishing it would be called "the one that got away." I travel the interstate a lot and this happens to me all the time.

I have been known to get into the grass by the side of the road and back up for a half a mile... :D
