Fuel to the fire - B&H catalog

I received my B&H catalog today and immediately opened to the front of the digital photography section and started loking for Canon DSLR's. After the PS's on pg 140 they had 5 Canon cameras listed Rebel XT, Rebel XTi, 30D, 5D, 1Ds Mark II and that's it but no signs on the 1D Mark II N

It wasn't until I finally got to Canon specific pages on pg 151 that the 1D Mark II N showed up

Gotta wonder if this is a suttle hint that it will be the 1D Mark II N that will be "upgraded" or announced in a couple of weeks................

I think it's the other way around. If they knew a replacement was coming up for the 1DMkIIN, it would have been on the cover. That way they would get as many out the door before the new model announcement reduces the value.

I agree. They wont want any hints really since they have alot of these to shift before the new ones.

I cant see them letting the 1D mark IIN go for less than £2k

It's more interesting that in the last 2 Popular Photography magazines and the last Outdoor Photographer magazine there have been either no or very non-camera model specific ads in them. One was about the photoworks website and maybe one about a printer. They are likely reading new ads for new models. :)


And why does B&H waste all that paper on cataloges they send to users that buy from their website only? If they'd look at their records, I have order all items from them from their website. Their website will be far more dynamic and current then their catalogues that I simply throw right in the trash.

Because it gives people something to hold on to which keeps B&H in their minds. I like the catalogs, actually. I can take them with me and read them when I want. I have always enjoyed physically holding a book (or catalog) to read versus reading one on the computer. PDFs of user manuals are immediately printed out so that I can bind them to read like a book.

Probably just me, though.

Your theory doesn't hold water.
why does B&H waste all that paper on cataloges they send to users that buy from their website only?They didn't become the #1 camera retailer in the world by being stupid. They know catalogs help sell stuff, regardless of how people choose to buy.

Because the catalogs make us look at other stuff too. I flip through the pages and see stuff ive never bothered browsing for. Online I go right to the goods. Lenses.

Because it gives people something to hold on to which keeps B&H in their minds. I like the catalogs, actually. I can take them with me and read them when I want. I agree! I love the catalog. I read it like a novel. . and then move things I see to my on line Wish List. Then every few months, click the buy this Wish Last button. Keep those catalogs coming.

PS: Correction, my last order was so heavy, I made the phone call to get my NAPP discount (free shipping) , which was substantial!

to be honest, i dont think the release of new 1series cameras is exactly in doubt at all is it? it is 100% gonna happen... specs are where its hazy...

You'd think they'd have to upgrade everything with the new Digic III out, the XTi only 2mp short of the 5D (of course that's not all the 5D is) and Canon settling for the Mark II N being the fastest back in'05? No no...they must reclaim the prize and come up with something that will make us decide...a new Saturn or a camera???

But as for these rumors. Arent they fun? Just entertainment. I dont believe one rumor until the actual camera comes out. But it is fun to just read about what COULD happen, right? And what is gonna be a riot is when/ if anyone posting rumors is somewhat accurate in their statements, they are gonna praise themselves like they had an actual idea of how the camera was going to turn out. It was all dumb luck:p
The 'I told you so' is going to ring out after PMA,lol.
