Hi there,

Last night I was shooting a gig in Cardiff and the supporting act were a group called Dressed to Kill.

Because they were a support act, the only lights were house lights so I was limited in what I could get, but here are a few.

Very nice. Nice lighting quality - hard to say about quantity without seeing the exif. I'm sure there was enough light if you had had some primes with you (I assume you didn't based on your signature). I have "redundant" primes (28, 35, 50 and 85 mm) to handle low light, I'd rather give up my zooms than those, but then again, I shoot a lot of club gigs (those are often the best mood-wise), and consider myself a low light specialist (even among concert shooters).

Anyway, first is top notch technically, and second is a really good Kiss-photo with the motion blurred tongue (even if the image itself is a bit soft because of movement).

Fourth is also nice - interesting angle. It's a bit unfortunate that the subject melds into the background, though.

Great set, you have Captured the energy well, i like the Color cast on them (i think thats the word, correct me if im wrong) as in the color looks vibrant but yet the skin tone is a normall Color (excluding last shot) and the shot of the Drummer is Fab. Favorite being 1 or 2.

I have just noticed you have captured the movement blur .

Good work.

Very nice, David! While one would never mistake them for the real KISS they have done a fine job ... except Simmons' tongue is about three times that long! :-)

If you had really good light these would have been killer shots. I have the small fast primes on my wishlist although I have the 85mm f/1.2 and 135mm f/2.0. I agree that four or five primes are much better than a single zoom but there are BIG tradeoffs in terms of speed and ease. Good to see you posting here again.

Thanks guys,

Yes Dw, been busy as hell the past few weeks, am about 4 gigs (concerts) behind on processing at the moment but catching up slowly. Have another 3 to shoot this in the next 7 days then a little break (Thank god) Add to that family stuff to deal with and a 20 week scan coming up next week, its a busy old time here in the UK.

I wish the lighting had been better, only a few cans with gel's and nothing fancy - but I did get some great shots of the main act however they have the right to cull any images before I can show them so you we will have to wait to post them.

Really looking forward to this week, got a GREAT Queen tribute act to shoot and the Drifters (Yep they are still around) so looking like a nice week.

I agree, I would love a really fast prime but think you loose too much by not having the zoom.

Also I am very dissapointed with my 24-70mm in concert stuff. Unless I shoot it pretty tight and right upclose, they seem a little soft. - could just be me needing a little more practice.

talk soon,

D.

Like #1, and the blurred tongue on #2 (cropped a bit tight though IMO). I like #3 and 6 as well, but I think I'd included the bass neck in 3.
