Canon just posted new firmware for a bunch of cameras, and the 3.2.1 version of ZoomBrowser is now available to anyone who has 2.x or newer. Here are some fairly informative links from dpreview.com.

I have just upgraded my G2 wih the new firmware, no problems so far.

1) download the distribution, run it and it creates a new folder under where you saved it to. in the new folder are some files.

2) I copied the PS_G2.FIR file into the root of a flash card using the card slot in my printer (HP P1100) and then put the card into my camera as per instructions.

Has anyone loaded on the latest version of zoombrowser 3.2.1 and crashed it yet? The major gripe of the ZB program for Canon users has been the frailty of the ZB database. One had to use ZB commands to move or delete images. For example if you used Windows explorer to do this it would corrupt the database causing the program to crash. Included with several other minor issues, this ZB ugrade would appear to be contain the critical fix, a more rugged image database

Since I had recently done a C drive backup, and was feeling brave, I decided to intentionally try to crash ZB. Loaded in 6 pics from the camera, whoa it names folders by date now. Went to windows explorer and moved one of the pics to a different folder. In explorer also deleted one pic. Went back to ZB and tried to look at these images. The program complained it no longer had the image, etc. but kept on running. Tried to fiddle with the changed images, but eventually just restored the database and all was fine again.

Thus bottom line is that the database does not being edited with Windows Explorer, but it will not instantly keel over and die like it used to. This is a big improvement!

I still will probably use breezedownloader and breezebrowser, but it is nice to know that zoombrowser is now a safer location to store pics. For the neophyte I actually think the ZB dialogue for "send images by Email" is quite efficient.

I just tried the same experiment. Created a folder in ZB, moved some pics in, then moved the folder elsewhere with Explorer. When I fired ZB up and refreshed the main directory, ZB just said that the subfolder was missing and asked if I want to remove it. I clicked yes, and moved on. That seems pretty reasonable to me.
