Jewel gave a free concert at South Station in Boston MA this past Friday. We heard about it on the radio that morning and left work to get there. The show was slated to start at 7; we got there at 5. We were right up front until they pushed us back for the VIPs. Regardless, it's amazing what can happen if you smile and carry a white lens.

I took the advice of Dwight McCann from another thread, and shot till I could shoot no more. :-) A lot of the pictures look the same, so I just picked out two here.

10D, 70-200/2.8IS @f/2.8, iso800, ss?, in-camera crops, sharpened for web

The fading at the bottom is really just the VIPs' shoulders. The black was a velvet curtain rigged up behind, to hide the escalators. How's the composition?

Cheers!
Jennifer

How do you crop in camera?

How do you crop in camera?

Wrong terminology....I just meant that I didn't crop them on my computer. That's the shot I got, just as I got it. How would I say that?

Thanks,
Jennifer

At first I was going to say that they look a tad overexposed but going back and forth between them I find that I actually like this almost "high key" effect. I also think that the portrait orientation and cutting off the guitar head works OK with these. When you do it in the camera it is called composition rather than crop but these terms are not all that terribly precise in meaning.

Nice, a bit overexposed though, and pity she has the mic to her mouth in both.

Great captures, thanks for sharing Jennifer...

So there is a method to this maddness...get there real early and shoot till you drop...

A few more, with the sponsor banner in the background. No mic-in-the-face with these.

Jewel is quite a bit prettier thank I thought she was ;)

Good pics, like others have said, If you toned it down juuuust a bit in Post, I think they would be great!

Also, maybe if you cropped off the funny shadow at the bottom? Just a thought

Same here. Can't believe these are not processed.

Have an extremly cool vibe/color saturation to them. Very shiny.

Could be a 50's/60's toothpaste magazine ad!

"Country Crooner Jewel says: Crest keeps my teeth white and my breath minty fresh!"

I love number 2. It looks like she is looking straight at you, as if you were the only person at her concert. Must have gotten her attention with that "white lens". I love number 2 a lot. :-)

I had the exact same thoughts about the lighting, exactly.

LOL.

Nice shots.
