I have just purchase a Iiyama 22" widescreen LCD/TFT monitor from a computer store here in the UK. Cost me £279.00 and tbh its the best monitor I have ever had. Here's details of it. It's the Iiyama ProLite E2200WS

Certainly worth looking into.

wow, what a letdown that was, its like the same as this one but different!

So, if im looking to get one too, what do I need to look for? What resolution and all that technical BS? im using the cheap little 15" dell LCD that came with my Comp and my wife has a 17"... (i cant be having the old lady have a bigger one than me, its not right!)
lol.. id like at least a 20" LCD.

This bugs me cause this gets asked alot and there is generally not a concise answer or their is a reference to another thread that doesnt answer the question. Here is what I have learned so far. IT may be right and for the most part I think it is and some of it may be a bunch of hoooey.

Monitor specs to look for.
16.7 Million colors (no less)
As much contrast ratio as you can afford. I have seen 1500:1 in a 19 inch LCD that was in the $350 range
Digital display
DVI capable ( this is a digital connection I believe)
Fast response time listed as "ms" lowest I have seen is 2ms. (this could be more important for a gamer though and not necessarily a quality that is required for a Photog)
Preferred Panels in LCD are S-IPS and S-PVA

So that is what I have gathered so far. I am not certain about the following specs for a photo editing monitor and maybe someone will chime in with some more details to give us a good technical guideline.

Display Resolution:
Physical Aspect Ratio:
Brightness:
Viewing angle:

I would appreciate it if anyone could add to the above info to help narrow down a monitor based on specs.

From what I have read there is still alot of people that believe that a flat screen CRT is best. So that is another consideration.

I had this one and liked it. Very sharp and clear pictures. Excellent contrast too. 2000:1 $249.00

This is what my fiancee just bought me. The quality seem almost the same to me. Lower contrast though. Good enough for my needs though. 700:1 $292.00
