After doing my patrol duties I took my camera out for some pic's time was not on my side so these are a little back lit and it might have missed up the focus on some. but I think they look good..

Hi Patrick,

Shooting skiing is one of my favorite things to do (also a patroller).

Shooting over snow is tough. These look a tad underexposed to me - maybe 2/3 stop or so to as much as one stop. The camera is trying to make the snow 18% gray. So you need to open up a touch to get it back to white.

I also find that if I boost the red about 25% and the green about the same, that also helps.

I'd also recommend you shoot in raw so that you can adjust the white balance. Typically the shots come out too blue (cool) and if you adjust the white balance warmer, that helps a lot. Raw also helps you to adjust the exposure later - which is important since the dynamic range over snow is huge.

Here's one of my son racing:

Hope this helps.

Well I did shoot raw and I did shoot man. and bumped the exposure to 1 full stop over what the camera wanted..

So I'm pretty much right were you expected me to be I think i knocked down the expsore on the second one the first time be cause the snow looked too blown out.. as you see i fixed it in the second.

If you want to play around i'll send you the raw files

Hmm. Now that I look at the snow, I see what you mean plus it is sort of a gray day. You might have to take a little blown snow to bring up some of the detail on the rider. Other option might be to use some fill in flash in high speed sync mode.

if you want me to fiddle with it, PM me and I'll give you my email address.
