I would like to hereby submit my application to the Poorhouse Foundation. Those 5 little mouse clicks seemed so innocent.

Look what B&H made me do

Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L
Canon EFS 10-22mm
Canon 430ex speedlite
Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip
Bogen/Manfrotto 3021N Tripod with 3265 Ballhead
58mm Macro Coupler
Canon BGM-E2 Battery holder
Sandisk 1gb Ultra II CF card

I have nobody to blame but you all :)
Just kidding.

God, I wish I could drop that much money on all that gear all at once... nice going! You're going to have sooo much fun with all that...

I notice there's no camera on that list. Useless without one. Oh well, you might as well pack up all the new gear and send it to me, don't worry, I'll look after it. :D

Seriously, what possessed you to drop money like that ALL AT ONCE!

I'm jealous that stuff isn't being shipped to my house :(

10-22 and 16-35?

So which bank did you rob? I just want to know so I don't bother trying tomorrow. :p

I'll second the question about why you went with the 10-22 and the 16-35?

Also, why did you buy the Canon BGM-E2 when the BG-E2 battery grip already comes with one? I have one, but I've never used it. I find that I don't need to use AA's because the BP-511's work so much better. If it were me, I would have used the $30 you spent on it to buy 3 BP-511 replacements from Sterlingtek. That way, with the original battery that came with your camera, you'd have 4 total batteries, 2 to put in the grip, and 2 as backups.

My reason for getting all of this is that I will begin photographing weddings in a month or so. Hopefully the gear will pay for itself soon.
The hardest decision I had was between the 16-35 and the 10-22. I wound up getting both as you can see. I figured that I would need the 2.8 for wedding work, but I loved the 10mm for landscapes. I'm just going to chalk it up to temporary insanity.

By the way mbellot. I think I was robbed by the bank. They now own my car until that gear is paid off.
I think I'm more nervous about shooting a wedding alone than paying this stuff off.

Crap.
I didn't realize that the grip came with the AA Battery holder.
Anyone know if BH has a good return policy?
My own fault for not reading the description.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention BigBlueDodge.

Paul, I really don't know anyone that uses the battery holder. The battery grip is built to hold Canon's BP-511 batteries (ie the batteries that come with your 20D/30D). However, the Battery Holder will allow you to use 4 AA batteries in place of the BP-511's. While its nice that you can use AA's, I don't know of anyone that does use them. I honestly think your money would be served by buying more BP-511's for your grip. Your grip will require 2 BP-511's. When you bought your camera, it came with one BP-511. You will need at least one more BP-511 to fill the grip (as it holds two). Also, if you plan on shooting weddings, I would highly suggest that you at least have one backup set of BP-511's. That means you should have 4 total BP-511's in your kit. You can buy a generic BP-511 from Sterlingtek (www.sterlingtek.com) for $12. I suggest you take the $30 you were going to spend on the battery holder, and use that to pick up some extra batteries.

You are going to be very happy with the 10-22. Its an incredible lens, and it will make you double think your decision to pay over 2x the cost of it for 16-35. The 10-22 and 24-70 make a great 2 lens set. If it were me, I'd take the 16-35 and return it for a 70-200 f/2.8, or if you already have that, then maybe a 17-55 f/2.8 IS, if you plan on staying with the 1.6x crop for a while.

Ouch!
Oh boy!

Just curious, for which body did you buy these for?
(I guess the 10-22 is a dead giveaway...)

If I could just say one little thing to help this guy save some $$$. If you really are deciding between the two of them, its simple. If you plan to go FF anytime soon, return the 10-22, as you'll be just as wide on the FF as you would be on the crop body with the 10-22, not to mention the 10-22 won't work on it.

Secondly, if you don't plan on going FF anytime soon, return the 16-35, as it just overlaps completely in your system and has almost little to no use other than the 2.8 aperature. And even if you do use the 2.8, 16 is way too wide for portrait IMO, and the 24-70 you just bought would be ideal for the wedding shoot.

Either way, I think you should return one of them, and stop making your bank account cry. Just my $.0000002

B+H has a good return policy, call them and tell them you want to return the battery holder. i have used mine but its easier to use 2 batteries rather than the AA's. if anything i use mine in extreme emergencies and i have 4 batteries as is.....

If you plan to shoot weddings, then a fullframe must be in your future....keep the 16-35L if you go the wedding direction.

I doubt the 16mm @ 2.8 will be sharp enough as at 2.8 the edges are really bad. It needs to stepped up take the blur away from the edges, this is what I read and I saw the photos as well.

I don't think a wedding customer will understand why here edges are blury. Better of using a speed light @ f/8

I'll agree about keeping the 16-35 L only.

Also return the 430EX and go for a 580EX or even a 550EX and a battery pack. You'll want and need a quick recharge when you use a flash for wedding photography. I think it's one of the best "must haves" in my camera bag.

OH YEAH! I'm jealous too! :(

To answer a few questions.

I currently shoot with a 30D
I have an old DRebel as a backup.
I also currently have a 550ex speedlite. The 430 is going to be my backup.

B&H was awesome. They were able to refund the AA battery pack before it even shipped.

I plan on upgrading to Full Frame within a Year's time(5D or the 5d Replacement). At that time I will most likely sell my 10-22mm. I just really want it for the super wide goodness. I should be able to sell it for very little loss as long as a replacement does not come out any time soon.

My current gear just wasn't cutting it. I know it's the Photographer and not the gear that make the picture but now that I'm going to get paid for this I feel the image quality needs to be as good as I can afford it to be.

I appreciate everyone's comments and help. I think I've learned 10x more from this board then all of the Photography courses I've ever taken.
Thanks POTN

Well well, looks like someone got a healthy bonus from work. Right?

If you've got some spare change, don't at all hesitate to throw it this way.
