I will keep this short and simple. I want some honest opinions on how you guys think these turned out... By the way, I did not use any re-touching, these are the origionals.

Thanks a lot guys-

Some great shots there mate, what was with the expression in #3, did she miss something, tune out for half a second between plays, etc?

Great shots there none the less!

Great shots, what lens did you use for these pictures?

Great sportraits, but not much action...

the only one I don't like is the last one. Alot of distracting going on there.

Your doing a good job, you should try to get more of the action IMHO...

these look awfully soft... either you used a sigma 70-200 f2.8 or your resizing program is pretty bad...

Close, I was using the Canon 70-200 2.8, yeah the software I used is Infranview poo... That i'm sure could explain a lot.

Why didn't you retouch them?

I am sorry, but I don't much care for these. Very little action and what there is has lots of motion blur. Volleyball is a fast action sport, spikes, blocks and digs. I don't see any of that. Backgrounds are very busy and distracting. Looking at your exif data you were shooting at 1/250-1/320, to slow for volleyball. Your iso was 1000-1200, bump it up to 1600 and get your shutter to at least 1/400, 1/500 would be better. If you have the 85mm f/1.8 I would suggest giving it a try. Also it doesn't hurt to post process before posting. Volleyball is very challenging, so keep working on it.

Not too bad. :)
Getting the exposure right in the indoor gyms really does take a lot of practice and I can't think of too many other sports shooting scenarios that are as challenging. Looks like you got that part down. They're nice and bright and the color looks good (I REALLY want to dump my F4 and move to the 2.8 :) )

I would just echo the post above when it comes to composition and shutter speed. Try to get a little bit of everything when you shoot (serve/receive, setter, kills, digs, etc.) and you'll be happy with your results. I try to pick one of the above mentioned and focus on it each play. As for Shutter speed, it really does have to be at least 1/500 or you're going to get the blur you have there. Sometimes a little bit of blur isn't a bad thing, but it's really rewarding that first time you get that shot of the players hand compressing the ball to 1/2 size. :)

Good luck!

Well taking the pictures on face vlaue I'd say that for "sportraits" rather than action shots, I quite like them! Obviously to catch the sport in its' entirity you may would need some more action but these are ok. Maybe if you change your profile to "Image Editing OK" one of us could try a sharpen up on photoshop for you?

Here's a very quick sharpen I did for you on CS2, is this more like what you were looking for?

Looking now I've probably over-sharpened those, but I'm sure u get the idea? Here's one more, sharpened a little less

Look oversharpened to me, but I imagine this is a personal preference thing...

Yeah I still agree that is only sharpened to an amount of 65% with a radius of 2.5 so not much at all, i guess it shows that there's not much needed to sharpen these ones up
