Hi everyone... I'm one of those annoying lurkers that came here and asked for help with a lens after getting my digital rebel for Christmas.

I found a great deal (I think) on a 512mg CF card, so I thought I'd come here to share.

Unless this is junk, and I apologize if it is because I'm still learning, it's a Viking 512 for $69.99 with free shipping. Here's a link:

Thanks again for helping with my lens! I've been taking some GREAT shots lately!

I'm not that familar with the brand, but that price for a 512 card looks very good to me.

Viking has good feedback for reliability. I'm not sure how fast they are for use in a digital camera. Good price though!

It's only 8X. It's slow. But if you're not shooting racecars then it's fine. Vikings are relaible cars though.

Do a search on Viking cards and you'll find many threads on the forum...probably half of them authored by me. In any case, been using Viking 512MB cards for two years and they have never let me down. I think I've purchased for myself and for others about 10 of them now.

Notice that the newer Viking cards are made by Toshiba in Japan. I started noticing that on the last two cards I bought. Interesting.

They are fast for most reasonable work, but not for shooting high frames/high speed events. But I've never run into bottlenecks from them.

I posted this a couple of days ago. I bought one myself. The card is garantied to write at 8x but independent results actually had it writing faster then my 12x lexar card. I am sure write speeds will vary. I have been pleased with my 12x lexar for write speed. I would think this card will do well also. This camera doesn't write much faster than 12x if any, so this card should do you well. The only reason you would need a faster card is for tranfering the pics to your computer.
