I like the composition, but my eye is drawn to the background. I think I would blur the background more if it were mine. I do like the subtle shades of yellow!

Kind of a busy and colorful background for a flower. The red berries especially draw attention away from the flower itself. Great lighting on the flower!

Use a white card board to reflect some light back on the flower. That should help it to stand out a bit.

OF fill in flash...........
I agree, the background is a bit distracting..............Maybe if you just decrease the saturation and apply some gaugassian blur, it will make your front image POP!!!

The shot is pretty good as far as composition goes, but getting a little closer and using the G5's manual focus system with an aperture in the 4.0-5.6 range would have brought your plants petals and center into much tighter focus and blurred the background at the same time. Judging by shadows it looks like the sun is pretty much overhead, so time of day (AM hrs or sunset) could enhance the beauty of a shot such as you've picked here.
Another option that really can make your flower shot "stand out' is to wait until the sunlight is really fading out, but not dark, and shoot in Manual mode with your flash setting reduced to the lowest output, and get 10-12 inches from the flower and fire away. What occured for me was a sharply defined flower with a completely dark blackground, as if shot in a studio environment. Anyway, happy photogging, enjoy the G5 !
