I did a search for the problem I'm having and I really couldn't find a straight answer. So.........Here's my problem:

I used my friend's 10D and changed out my gig card betwen his camera and my D30. I went to covert the raw files over as I usually do and I get this message of "an unsupported image format is included in the file save". The images that I did with my D30 coverted fine but all the others failed.

Do I simply download software from Canon to covert my 10D images or what? Hopefully it's something simple because I dragged and dropped all my RAW files successfully to my hard drive.

Thanks in Advance!!!!!1

Have you tried any third party software like : Photoshop CS or C1 ?

I had this problem between two different Canon cameras before. If I recall right I used breezebrowser and it was able to read the CRW files.

I did a little further testing at that point in time and this problems was consistent. If I formatted the card in the camera everything was fine.

The RAW file format for the 10D is different than the D30 & D60 and are not readable by Photoshop 7.0. Photoshop CS has a new RAW converter that reads the new format. You have to use the Canon software provided with the 10D, CS or a third party SW package to read them.

You probably need the 10D software to read the 10D RAW or use Breezebrowser. You can download a demo and see if it works.

Irfanview reads the RAW files from my 10D A-OK. And it's free. :)

In a Canon RAW file (CRW), there's not only the RAW data, but also an embedded JPEG image. IrfanView does not do RAW conversion - it only shows the embedded JPEG image. That's why it's so fast....

After playing around a bit I see what you mean. I don't shoot in RAW much, so I've never noticed that before. For some season I thought the thumbnail file was the JPG.

Anyways, you learn something new everyday I guess.

Actually after looking around in Irfanview I see that it will do the whole RAW compression thing.

In irfanview hit "p" to bring up the properties screen, and then flip over to the "plugins" tab.

You have three options:
"Load preview image only (fastest)"
"Load using Canon DLLs (high quality)"
"Load using FORMATS plugin (high quality)"

If you select the "load using Canon DLLs" you have to:

3) CRW: allows IrfanView to read Canon CRW files (high resolution image version).
Note: this PlugIn requires additional Canon DLLs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The list of Canon CRW DLLs required by IrfanView CRW.DLL (3.85 and later):
CDFILSYS.dll
CDPTPCLS.dll
CDRAPCLS.dll
CDSDK.dll
deImg010.dll
deImg110.dll
deImg121.dll
deImg153.dll
deImg167.dll
deImg168.dll
deImg404.dll
DeImgd60.dll
IWrap.dll
psCamDat.dll
pscDcd.dll
pscDevUI.dll
pscDvlp.dll
pscParse.dll
deImg129.dll
deImg131.dll
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can download these DLLs with the Canon ZoomBrowser program:

or here:

(check "Readme.txt" for instructions and install!)

Tried them all out of my computer (dual PIII-800s @900 each).
"preview image" loads instantly
"Canon DLLs" loaded in ~24secs
"FORMATS plugin" loaded in ~23 secs

The Canon DLLs did a noticably better job then the FORMATS plugin in my quick test (a picture of my soundcard box on the floor) - sharper and more vibrant colours. Neither plugin appeared to be SMP aware, ie: both only loaded up one processor, which is unfortunate for those with dual processors or hyperthreaded P4s.

OK, but I've also learned something new today..... IrfanView *does* do RAW conversion, but you have to set it up correctly...... :) thanks!
