One of the most discussed subjects here are lens questions. Questions like 'What kind of lens do I need?' or 'Looking for a good zoomlens', 'Is lens X good or lens Y better?'. Of course these questions are logical because we all want to have the best quality pictures we can reach with our cameras (and our money).
What would you think about a special website with pictures made with different lenses? So people can see the results with a lens they are intending to buy. Of course I know it is not only the lens that makes the picture but it is an impression.
For the camera we will use only the EOS 10D or EOS 300D because there almost the same and these cameras are used most by the people of this forum.
So the idea is not to give a lot of technical data of the lenses but pictures that where made with them. We can link to the manufacturer of the lens for further technical info or give some brief info.
Of course I am not going to buy every lens there is to make the pictures, these pictures will have to come from you! I think that al those 10D and 300D lovers out there will have a wide range of lenses together so we can cover a lot.
I will make the website, manage a database and take care of hosting. Input will have to come from you.
This poll is just an indication for me. It's not a guarantee that I will start it.
Please vote and give your opinion!

It's an interesting idea and I'd be happy to contribute... One problem I see is this. It is difficult to compare lenses if the pictures are all different. What is really needed is shots of some sort of standard target with the lighting constant across the whole range of pictures. That is going to be difficult to achieve.

Yep, can't vote because Cadwell is right on target and that's not an option on the poll.
However, if you all send me your lenses I will test them on my camera and take the same photo for each... :)

Hehe...no, i like my idea better anyways.
Just pointing out that it's already been discussed and hasnt gotten anywhere
ok, so i'm using his thread to get plublicity to mine, in the end it doesnt matter to me just so long as we have a reliable source for buying our lenses other then www.photographyreview.com, which in my opinion is full of people who are content with lesser equipment, which is fine, but i tihnk the people on these boards for the most part are not.

I would contribute to this.
I think for all the Zoom.. it could be interesting seeing Ã* FULL WIDE, then FULL TELE of the same subject, and an indication from the distance from the subject.
I might help the "do I need that much zoom?"

I think the idea has merit. Someone has to head it up. We need to decide on a single object to be photographed that everyone has available such as a $.25 cent piece and contitions under which it is to be photographed. Sun light, outside, 10 ft, 10 yds, etc.. Then different people who have each type of lens could take a photo and post it for comparison. That way a new potographer could see a example of each type of lens and compare it to others. I t surely would have helped me make a decision.
Just my 2 cents.

....We need to decide on a single object to be photographed that everyone has available such as a $.25 cent piece ...
The object ... which offers a little more color,. and interest,. and quite frankly will be much more readily available to us all.. (due to our lack of any money to photograph, even a quarter)
..is a box of KRAFT Mac & Cheese!!

Nothing but the best. Or at least the best that we CanonaHolics can afford. :)
Actually, there's worse than Kraft out there - I've had it. :)

At least you can probably find it in more countries than you can find a USA quarter.
So, do you photograph that blue box at 10 meters or ten yards?
