has anyone seen a review on the new canon 9900 firewire 8 ink printer? also, i just had to replace the printhead on my S9000. bought it last october. canon warranty covered it, but that seemed like a relatively short life. any experiences :?:

The printer isn't available yet. I've only seen descriptions - no reviews. Supposedly the two extra ink tanks permit a larger gamut in the red and green regions.

I agree with someone who recently noted that it's hard to see the differences between generations of the Canon inkjet printer line. I've had the Canon S900 and now the i950. Most striking to me is the difference in the speed, quietness, and overall functionality of the printer. The images from both are superb. Others who use Epson and HP may tell you the same.

My Canon S900 print head got clogged several times and I had to initiate the self-cleaning operations with good results. I believe the S900 and S9000 have the same print head. The print head never failed. My i960 seems to self-clean automatically more often. It hasn't clogged yet.

Post some reviews if you find them. :)

woody,
thx for the reply. i did clean the heads at both levels a number of times, as well as align and check nozzle for correction etc. the good news was that the dealer canon directed me to in austin had me wait @20 minutes, and replaced and optimized the new print head while i was there - non hassle, paperwork or $$.

i agree that the canon print out changes are subtle - but what sparks me, hopefully, will be the firewire connection - i run OS X Panther/Adobe PS Elements on a Mac Powerbook G4 with firewire 400 and 800. What i wish canon would come out with is fine art paper a la ilford, and a facility for a multi black ink set, a la lyson or epson.

Man .... that would be awesome but I think unlikely. Others have had experience with non-Canon fine art papers. See http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24286 .
