I am at a loss on what to do here. I have a 1DMKII that was losing images about a year ago, I sent it in for service and had to pay $185 to have the camera repaired as it was out of warranty. It took me a while to confirm the problem because it would only lose a few pictures here and there. They replaced a board and all seemed well. Well now it is happening again. Tonight I was shooting and bringing the card back to the computer every few minutes and sure enough the last few frames I took were gone. I am on the latest firmware, I know of the earlier bug they had, and I am using Sandisk Ultra II cards (4GB) not Lexar.
So now here I am saying to myself do I pay another $185 and have a camera that I can not trust. I have always been suspicous of the camera since the first issue and recently thought it was happening again so I did some controlled testing. I just do not know if I can ever have confidence in this unit again and now I feel stuck. There is no way I would ever sell the thing to anyone knowing it could be a dud. Other than that the camera has been great. So what would you do? As crazy as it sounds I am not a professional but have a very substantial amount of money invested in Canon gear. Ideas? Comments??

If you've sent it in for repair once and Canon replaced a part, and now the same problem has recurred, I think you have a good case for getting Canon to repair it free of charge. It certainly wouldn't hurt to approach them about the issue.

have you tried a different card?

I was told once before they warranty repairs for 6 months, we will see though as I will give it a try.
As for a different card this time I did not try another one, I was so agitated when I realized it was happening again I had to walk away. It is a very random thing and I can not find any pattern that causes it so it’s not like I can just make it happen. I guess I will give it a try but again it is very sporadic

Are you sure the camera'd finished writing to the card before you removed it? If you're shuttling the card back and forth between camera and computer this is a very real risk. If you really need to have the pictures available on the computer right away, maybe you should try using Remote Capture.

Yes the camera was finished writing, that I am sure of. Even with the weather here in NJ today I dropped the camera off at Canon service with the CF card. They say it will be $192 to have them look at it and that covers basic repairs.
When I was speaking with the person behind the desk he mentioned that not only does the camera have a firmware (it is on the latest version) but the CF card firmware may need to be upgraded.
Has anyone ever heard of that?? I have never upgraded the firmware on a CF card. It is a Sandisk Ultra II 4gb

Lexar cards hads a firmware problem a couple of years ago. Canon posted service notices on this, and they're probably still up.

I saw that info on the web. when I dropped off the camera I left the SanDisk Ultra II 4gb card there with it.
I can not find anything at all about Sandisk CF cards and firmware upgrades
