If anyone out there is thinking of buying an Image Stabilization lens, and you are trying to figure out of it really works, I am posting this for you. Hand Held, 0.7 seconds (NEARLY THREE-QUARTERS of a second!), at about one-third zoom (41 mm out of 28 to 135).

Sweet, huh?

I will grant you that this was the best of 4 shots, but without IS, I could take 4 *hundred* shots at 0.7s and STILL not have one anywhere near this!

this is just a thumbnail - so you dont have to wait for a 3 meg thumbnail to show.

this link takes you to the full-size, uncompressed, straight out of the camera version

Bob Atkins from photo.net just put an article on that website that clearly shows how well IS works: http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/is_lenses/

I have a 28-135 IS - and I love the IS! It really works great.

This is a pretty remarkable example.. clearly shows how much the world was moving by while the shutter was open. You'd swear it was a tripod shot.

Maybe it's because he's old and moves so slow? :D

When I bought my 10D I bought the 28-135.. Simply because I figured it would do what I want to do.. I have used it for walk around as well as a gazillion shots in studio.. With pretty good results actually. Granted it is a bit soft but most always acceptable especially in mid aperture range. But it is versitile friendly and I like a lot.. I got my 20D/kit lens now and also a Canon 50 f/1.4 USM. Looking to get 24-70 real soon.. But the 28-135 is still going to see plenty of action I think.
