View Full Version : Neat Image Demo Question

I recently (three days ago) downloaded the Neat Image Demo to check it out prior to a potential purchase. I have used it as a plug-in with PS7 to process about 30 photos and am really liking what I am getting out of it. But here is my question. Everytime I apply Neat Image, a box pops up with a message that reads:
"Neat Image Demo plug-in will only process a part of the input image if the image is larger than 1024 x 1024 pixels."
The non-demo versions have no such limitations.
Since all of my images are larger than 1024 x 1024 (most are 2000 x 1600), does this mean I am not seeing the full effect of Neat Image? I like what I am getting with the demo but should I run the image through Neat Image a second time after purchasing one of the non-demo versions? Or is that too much noise reduction?
And while I am at it, which of the four versions would you recommend for an amateur outdoor/nature photographer like me? I like the plug-in so I guess that means the "Home+" version is the least expensive version that would work for me. Correct?
Thanks.

I use Noise Ninja myself. I did have the Demo of Neat image for awhile. The demo will only do 1024x1024 as stated. So if you are running it on a larger picture. Only the max size is being processed. I don't know it it does it from the middle out, or starts in a corner. Either way you just end up with a clean square in you photo leaving everything else untouched. You will notice this if you zoom in on the photo 100%, or if it is really noise, from the standard view in PS. Running it twice will more then likely wipe tons of detail from the already processed area. As to which one to buy, I have no clue as I just use NN. Hope that helps.;)

On a Mac, the message is a bit clearer....
Give Noiseware (http://www.imagenomic.com/) a try...
IMO it's both faster and better.

It is not uncommon for vendors to have limitations in their software demos.
I would try reducing your image to 1024 on its longest side and then try it again if you want to see it applied against the whole image.
Neat Image has a number of different versions. Some of the lower end ones will not load as a photoshop filter. I use the Neat Image Pro + version and it does load as a filter and I am quite happy with it.
Everyone has their preferences for noise management. I am not wrong because I like Neat Image and someone else like Noise Ninja. It is a matter of getting to know your software and working within its limitations. You will get a variety of opinions on which one is better. Between the two mentioned here, I think either one will do a fine job.

Thanks for the help. I purchased the Home+ Version and ran a bunch of bird images through it. I really like what it does. I also have the option to upgrade to Pro+ if I find I need it in the future.
I've got lots to learn. I am just scratching the surface with PS7 and Neat Image right now.
