I am thinking of switching to EE but before I do so I have some questions concerning that script:

1. As I have looked on the galleries I noticed there is no special keyword field. Is it possible to add such a field (visible for the visitor)?

2. Is it possible to add additional fields?

3. It seems that it doesn’t support sub-categories: Is there a way to do so? My photos would need categories and subcategories and most photos belong to different categories and subcategories:
e.g.
Person
- Name A
- Name B

Events
- Event A
- Event B

Is it also possible to list all categories on an overview page in a table (not as drop down menu) since I am afraid I would need too many categories which would be uncomfortable choosing them via a dropdown menu.

4. Do all exhibitions need to use the same categories or can they have different categories?

If i understand your questions.

1) This would be Exhibition "FREE TEXTUAL INFO"

2) I don't know (Pekka will need to answer this)

3) I don't believe you can do subcategories

4) Photos are in catgegories not exhibitions

So there aren't any keyword fields which can be shown to the visitor (keywords are a lot different to free text!)?

4) Photos are in catgegories not exhibitions
That means each exhibition will show exactly the same categories and the same photos?

I see, you would need a combined list of keywords found in all photos. That is on my todo list.

In EE you can have any number of categories, and each photo can belong to any categories. Category is not a "group of something" in EE. It is a definition of content.

You assign photos to exhibitions. Based on what photos EE has on current exhibition, it shows a list of available categories for that exhibition. You can try these things out in e.g. http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/list.php?exhibition=1&u=370-0-digital

You can group exhibitions to groups. Any exhibition can belong to any group. So your question 3 would be handled by groups in EE.

Do I understand it correctly that I can have one single photo in a unlimited number of exhibitions without having to copy it?

Is there a limit on how many exhibitions I can create?

Yes. EE has a thumb/microthumb path which MAY be different for each exhibition, so if those differ then EE copies those small files. This info is stored on separate table. Else, the same database data is used (photo id).

Is there a limit on how many exhibitions I can create?

No.
