So I broke down and got one. So far so good, and I have to echo what some have mentioned: "feels like a whole new camera".
You long-time owners out there, any issues?

Tons of threads over in the accessories forum about the Opteka. Works great, just enjoy it, the grip works wonderfully on the XT series cameras.

I am getting an XTi in April and have thought about the grip. Do you HAVE to put in two batteries or will it work with 1. If you use just 1, does it throw off the balance?

The battery grip functions fine with just one battery. It doesn't matter which of the two battery slots you use either but I never noticed much of a difference in balance either way.

I have the Canon version and always use the battery in the inside slot to keep the weight towards the center. Doubt it really makes a difference, it's just the way I do it.

I have not noticed a difference in the balance when putting the battery in either slot. So far I have only used it with one battery so yes, it works with only one.

that was from my post a while back. it hasn't come off the camera since i got it and so far so good with mine. i've been carrying it in a backpack (generic eastpack, not a camera backpack) and haven't had issues with the rubber grip coming off. no sticking buttons or dial either. i'm glad i got it. :D

Does the camera feel either too big or too heavy with the grip?
Also, does the Opteka shutter button feel "mushy" to you? (as some have described it)

Its a matter of personal taste. And how big your hands are. In my case, I especially like the grip when I'm using a bigger or heavier lens. Much easier to hold when, say, you're using a 1.5 pound lens or long telephoto. When I'm using a smaller lighter lens while travelling, I've recently come to appreciate the smaller, less obtrusive size of the camera without the grip.

The Opteka's shutter button does feel different from the 350d's. I'm not sure I'd necessarily describe it as "mushy" but it is different. I guess its also a matter of taste. Personally, I think the value and convenience of the battery grip far outweigh the feel of the button's action. It works fine.
