Sterling Tek sells a generic battery for the S50...

...for $12.99. Has anybody had any experience with ordering from Sterling Tek and/or with generic (non-canon) batteries? This is so much cheaper than a Canon NB2L that I wonder it might damage my camera. Anybody know of any issues with generics...leaking/poor lifespan/battery memory/camera damage/etc.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am seeking an extra battery and I've heard that generic batteries work fine. Is this company's reputation good?

I'll let you know. I never heard back from anyone so I just went ahead and ordered 2 of them. Shipping is $6.99 (I chose $8.99 for FedEx 2 day) so I figured I should order at least 2. It's still much cheaper than anywhere else I've found. Hopefully the quality is okay.

I bought one of the 900 mAh (Canon NB-2L) from sterlingtech for my S50 about a month ago, has been working fine so far. When I first charged it the ready light would blink red and then green, after about 5 or 6 charges it now turns to green and stays green.

I've bought generic batteries for my S45. In the begining the generic battery worked just like the Canon battery. But after 1,500 pictures (on each battery) mostly with flash the generic battery is almost burnt out. It won't hold a charge as long as the Canon.
I bought mine for about $15 shipped. The cheapest new Canon battery I can find goes for $50. So I can buy 3 generics and still break even. I doubt a Canon battery can last through 4,500 shots so I think the better deal is the generic battery.

I received my batteries from Sterling Tek. Apart from the high shipping costs, the batteries charged up and worked fine. I ordered on Friday and chose FedEx 2 day ($8.99) vs. USPS ($6.99) and they arrived on my door on Monday afternoon. Since the batteries were only $12.99 I bought 2...2 batteries + shipping were still less than the 1 Canon battery.
So far so good...
