Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS and a Canon 2X EF II extender is on its way from B&H.
Man its like a load of my shoulder. Fareway to all those sleepless night, hello DUCK and GEESE pictures! :) So until I can get the 100-400mm f/4.5~5.6L IS I will just have to live with the 2X EF II, stop down to f/11 and shoot in good sunlight, which is where most of the softball/baseball game will be taking place.
For indoor games/action I will have to compromise on distance, ditch the 2X extender and use the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Regards,
Ferdinand

200 f/2.8 + 2x TC = 400 f/5.6
Same as the 100-400, just no IS, and the 2-touch zoom vs push-pull. (Which, so far, I like better for birds in flight.)
You'll be loving this lens! Congrats!

No IS?
I was under the impression that a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS with a 2X TC would have IS only just center AF? EEEK!
Yup its like 400mm f/5.6 but in order to get the optimum sharpness you will have to stop down to f/11.

Ferdinand, just sent your wet pants to Scottes and, as his penance, he'll wash it for your and press it to boot.
Oh, and congrats on your purchase.
Better start working out with some 5 pound dumbbells so that you'll be in tip-top shape to lug that thing around when it finally arrives. You don't know what heavy is until you've shot more than a couple of minutes handholding that lens! :D

I already have the 70-200 2.8L IS and have decided to get a 2x to go with it. I plan on getting the 100-400 but haven't quit made the move yet. So I thought I'd see how the 2x worked on the 70-200 this spring when I need the longer lens for when the Dragon Boat races start. If that works for what I need, I'll stick with it, if not, I'll get the 100-400 for when I need it this summer and fall.
So it will be interesting to see how the combination works for you, Ferdinand. The weight of the lens isn't a problem, I've already toted that around all day for 9 days without to many aches and pains. I just put as much as possible on my belt and not my neck so I don't have lots of weight there.

Hey Mike,
Yup I am going to shoot with the 2X on and see how optimise a pic can I get it to be. Its not going to be a comparison test I just want to see how sharp I can get it by shooting at f/8 and f/11.
Will post some photos when I get some this weekend.
Bruce,
I will remain as the Faber-Castell guy cause its fun! :)
