I have to work hard [or say to save hard] to get 35L and 85L, at least 35L is a bit more affordable, but i hope i buy them to use them not just buy them because i blown away of the shots here and many recommend it and then end up with no use.

Based on affordability the 85L is a no brainer. The 85L II is very expensive. I prefer the FL of the 85 though.

Hey guys,
I just got the 35 today. I love it, except for one thing. The CA Pink Fringing seems really bad. Heres an example.

Is this normal, is there a way to actually fix it (not just resolve it on the computer)
Ps that is SOOC (Jpeg)

At wide apertures you'll get CA in bright lights, if you shoot RAW you just need to live with taking it out in post.

I've only had it for awhile, but so far, I've been carrying my 5d mkII with 35L on it... and one lens (either 85L or 200L 2.8) plus one 580 and two pocket wizard flex's.

But for the majority of the time, I'm carrying the above, minus the flash and PW's

I got this lens because I would be at either ends of the 16-35m /2.8 II & was not really happy with the performance of the zoom wide open. The zoom is a very good lens, don't get it twisted, I just prefer the rendering of this lens at this focal length.

if they have done changes to this lens like they've done when the 24L got upgraded. then yes it's worth my money. I want the weather sealing, i want less distortion, and less CA.

got my lens this morning and took it for a test run... I think I like this thing. I think I like testing it on the beach too.

You're killing me - here it's rainy and fog, and there you are on my favorite island, on the beach, with such amazing "test" subjects. Color me green with jealousy.

Need any help?

"TheBund".......As in....Shanghai?

No the Bund as in my last name is Bundschuh... and no one can spell it or pronounce it so for the ease of everyone my friends shortened it to Bund. Then it ended up "the Bund" like I'm some sort of household appliance. "Honey have you seen the bund? I swear I put it down right here."

As some of you know, I have always questioned the sharpness and reliability of my 35L wide open. It was totally useless wideopen till 2.2 on my 5d classic but there is dramatic improvement on my 5D2. Please look at these samples I shot at 1.4 yesterday and let me know if I am knit-picking or should be concerned

of your four images, only the second looks sharp to me. from what i can see, it doesn't look like a lens flaw, but rather motion blur. what shutter speed were you shooting at?

Mine is about the same as yours at 1.4 (a teeny bit soft) but 1.6 it's awesome!

It could also be that your lens needs to be calibrated. When I first purchased mine (used), I had to send it off for calibration. It was front focusing nearly every time. Now, it rocks. Easily the sharpest lens I own.

That was taken right in the middle of downtown. It's on the side of a parking garage near the performing arts center.

I think it might be fairly new, but since I'm even newer to Dallas, I don't really know. Sorry.

Np, but really, i like the way it turned out, the first one is so vibrant, every time i try to do something like it i end up at B&W or toned :D ...I need to learn some stuff about PP...

AKHOO
19th of January 2010 (Tue), 17:53
Paulius, I previously used iPhoto and it worked a treat. It did what I wanted to do (minimal pp)without getting into the nitty gritty.

I am now using Aperture 2 and am starting to get a hang of this post-processing mumbo jumbo.

The first shot has minimal post-processing - pretty much straight out of camera. Some sharpening and vignetting is all I did. Maybe some contrast, vibrance adjustments too.

We always say something about colors, vibrant, contrast,...etc when we want a lens, almost always i want any lens used by POTN because they use all the lenses in Canon line and we can see how amazing results they show us, not forgetting the pp they do, so i am confused between the lens itself and the great pp.
