I was curious about what type of filter people are using on theirs? I was thinking about purchasing the B+W UV Haze 010 MRC Coating F-Pro Glass Filter. Do anyone have any experience with this filter?

This is what I put on all my lenses. Good quality and reasonably priced. Not sure if buying heliopans would make much difference.

Sweet. Photos look good, man. Keep it up.

This is the same UV filter I use. It's great. I wouldn't bother using any other filter at this point.
I actually did some tests, because I read somewhere that UV filters will lower the quality of your images. So, I shot static objects in different lighting with and without the filter (out of curiosity). And to be honest, I didn't see any differences ... which is a good thing. I also happen to have a cheap Tiffen laying around, and shot the same images with it on, and I did notice a difference with the Tiffen. The colors didn't pop and the overall Tiffen shots were a bit washed out.
Anyhow, after all is said and done.. I am now a firm believer in buying quality filters. Especially ones that you will use 24x7, as you would a protective UV filter. It's definitely worth the money, in my opinion. And B+W is the top dog. With me, I just can't imagine paying 1200 bucks for a lens and degrading it with cheap filters. Never saw the logic in that.
In fear of getting flamed ... My opinion is based solely from my personal experiences. Others may argue different points, but I don't need to be convinced otherwise. :)
Hope that helps.

I see that the majority of people that have posted photos are using 5d II, how is this on the 7d? I know it would be closer to a 50mm? I have been looking for a lens that has this DOF, so should I look at the 24l instead?

its totally different in all regards..a 35mm on a 1.6x will yes have a field of view closer to that of a 50mm..but the aspect ratio would remain a 35mm..
and thus a 24mm on a 1.6x crop would not have the same effect as a 35mm on full frame in any way other than a more similar field of view..
that said both are incredible lenses...however one does cost more and is much much harder to find, i feel like i lucked out when i stumbled upon my 35L...and the 24L is supposed to be even harder to come by.
i never know why folks not sure of what they want and are comparing choices on paper and comparing other peoples photographs...what good does that do? go rent them!

I would click on one of joeyjoeyjoey's photos throughout this thread. That will take you to his Flickr gallery. I know he frequently uses a 1.3x crop and the 35L combined.
Frankly, there's none a finer example of how to excellently utilize that combo.

Emm maybe I worded it wrong but what I mean is the 35L has a more realistic pop where as the 135L makes the subject pop out but you don't sense the placement of surrounding objects in street photos. Not something you would expect the 135L to be good at I suppose, they are aimed for different styles of shooting so no conflicts there!
Both of them are great lenses, I haven't touched the 24-105L much lately and usually don't take it unless I dont know what to expect.

Here in Vancouver, the Olympics are happening and they are making last minute preparations to make the event is a success.
there is a streetcar that runs from the Olympic village to a tourist spot called Granville Island and it'll run for free until March 2. The streetcar is made by bombardier and is about half the size as the real skytrain.

I am looking at the detail and lighting in these pictures and i'm amazed! I am using the 24-105 F4L on my 5D MKII and I am not as happy with the detail and heavy shadows. Am I just a bad photographer or is the 35mm F/1.4 L THAT much better than what I have?
Incredible shots!
Thanks, Kurfer. I doubt you are a bad photographer, it's just a different game with the 35L as well as the 24L. Okay, and the 135L, too. I walked through Longwood Gardens in South-central PA with another photographer and I used her 24-105L with my speedlight while she used both my 24L and 35L for shooting indoor botanicals. All three were stellar, but each served a different purpose. With flash, the 24-105 resolved some amazing textbook-like images with details that I could find no flaws with when I peeped. Her shots with my primes just blew me away, artistically, that is.
To me--the way I like to shoot--these primes rise well above everything else when shooting still life, landscape, etc., that you can walk up to and take your time composing, lighting, etc., and even set a tripod. You could add portraiture to that, but I don't do much.
Outdoors and in good light, the 24-105 certainly has it's conveniences. In fact I may be adding one for summer beach, boarwalk, and nature hikes on my 5Dii and I'd also put it on my 50D for my wife to shoot with when she comes along on bird and wildlife treks so she can shoot berries, bugs, butterflies, and bushes. The 50L and 85L sound equally amazing, but both seem to have idiosyncrasies that keep them boxed in a little more than the 35L and the 24L. If you want to start getting in to primes, you might start with the 85 f/1.8. One of the best value primes ever. I've filled some of my best frames ever using that lens.

These are some of the best and sharpest pics I have ever seen. I am a firm believer in the L class thanks to this thread. These are truly amazing.
Its hard to say how much better a lens is vs another but I am almost positive these are the clearest and most detailed pictures I've ever seen, comparing this thread to other threads. The other L primes seem on par but I think this one outperforms them all. MAYBE its just me though!
