I received this lens yesterday and I'm guessing the lens hood is pretty much useless on this lens. Am I doing something wrong? You could see it in every shot.

You sure you didn't put it on 90° crooked? There is no way you should be seeing it in your photos unless it's not on correctly.

To fit a person into the frame? About 4-5' away on full frame.

It's a great lens, and focuses fast. I am just not a fan of the build quality. Costs almost as much as my 16-35L, yet feels like my 85 f/1.8.

mritchy, I can't say that I agree. It's not as solid as my 24LII, but nowhere near as "bad" as 100/2 (which is similar or identical to 85/1.8 ).

Just picked this lens up today....only issue is I didn't check the hood in the store, and the box had the 50 f/1.2L hood in it...

Odd, but fixable tomorrow.

CPL? Nope! :) Lightroom 3.... gradient tool... I pushed the image are far as I thought I could and then synced it with the 13 others to keep it consistent. Really useful tool.

I wish I could post it here really large.... the original is 14" x64"

I know what you mean. :) When we went to Scotland a couple of months ago I brought three lenses and used 35L for 85% of all shots... It's just so versatile.

Yeah the shoot was at the worse time of day 10 a.m. I used one sunpak 555 through a shoot through umbrella. The rooftop images the lighting was really harsh up there. Its a good thing I got permission right before the shoot the city is getting tired of "us" photographers using the parking garage, it was my first time though.;)

That's a really good concept! Though I would've preferred to have more of the background in focus i.e. stop down so that you don't have to decipher the blobs on the left ;) Great shot anyway!

12" is the minimum focus distance ~ The 5DMkII's crop-ability had something to do with it :)
