Yep this is by far always the most tempting lens. I really love using the 24L on my 60D so I keep considering just getting a 35 but I can't justify all 3 and I really can't let go of my 24 or 50 so I just keep admiring everyone photography in this thread.

I did a complete modelshoot ONLY with 35L last week :)
Had the 85 1.2L with me but not enough room and 35L felt so comfortable :)

So I went to my shop today to test out this lens and Im in love. The focal length is awesome, it focuses really close (which Im super happy with), very little distortion and crazy sharp wide open. I have been thinking of selling my 24-105 and 50 1.4 to fund this lens, but Im still on the fence whether I should or not :S Any advice ;)

I just got mine. I'm using a 7D (56mm equivalent) and still it's perfect for me. When, someday, i go fullframe , it could only get better. Just what i was looking for. :)

Oh well, the 35L on offer has already been sold...so I'm gonna stick to my 50 for now and probably pick up a 35L later down the line.

...maybe after a 85L. I'll just drool over this thread in the meantime! :D

Been craving for this lens for a while and finally pick one up today!!!
Gotta say I am quite disappointed with the bokeh. I sort of expected that as it always has nervous and ugly bokeh imo......anyway, here's some random test shots, SOOC.

@ f1.8 (octagon fest)
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6056/6338926141_6d4d46eb24_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kin2son/6338926141/)

@ f2.5 (even worse....)
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6213/6338930863_caae804c32_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kin2son/6338930863/)
@ f2.5... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kin2son/6338930863/) by kin2son (http://www.flickr.com/people/kin2son/), on Flickr

Bokeh @ f1.4 is acceptable, but then dof is too thin...I guess this lens is only good from f1.4-f1.8, then f4 onwards...i just don't see much use anything in between.

Congrats on the lens purchase. This lens does have its characteristics. But there are more to this lens than its bokeh. It's wonderful for environmental portraits as demonstrated by this thread. Give it some time and start shooting around. Hopefully you'll see how wonderful this lens really is,

Thanks. Yea I'll need to see thru the nervous bokeh and try some environmental portrait :D

I have no problem with the sharpness thou...my SOOC test shots seem sharp enough to me:p

Yeah, yours looks spot on perfect in regards to sharpness. It's not as sharp as the 85 or 135L but, for me, its a lot more versatile. I sold my 24-105L after i got the 35L since I wasn't using the zoom anymore.

Hi IBICO,

Photoshop, see what I have done step by step below.

1. This is an original photo. Raw -- (DPP) -- JPG without adjustment
http://www.pongsathorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/original-Copy.jpg

2. After apply curves layer.
http://www.pongsathorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/curves.jpg
http://www.pongsathorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/original1_after_curves.jpg

3. After apply Solid color layer, (Soft light)
layer --> New fill color --> solid color, pick the bright yellow(soft light)
http://www.pongsathorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/original2_after_solidcolor.jpg

4. After apply grain and blur effect
filter --> texture --> grain, intensity 18, contrast 50, grain type - soft
filter --> blur --> gaussian blur (0.3)
http://www.pongsathorn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/original_afterGrainandBlur.jpg

5. Final image. just tweak it what ever you want.

Love how you don't need a perfect background to create a decent image with this lens. In this case the room was a real mess, the floor was dirty and there were lots of things on the breakfast bar. The 35L makes a far less distracting bokeh out of all that mess :D

Hello! No, I came home to Bangkok last night. Spent about 2 weeks and a couple of days just cruising around in Japan, enjoying the autumn. I went to Nikko, Tokyo and Kyoto.

Finally had a fun senior shoot with some personality. My coworker saw my work and hired me for his son's senior shots and had the idea to shoot at the new rock climbing gym in Vancouver that just opened up. The owners were really cool and nice and let me have all access to shoot and light how I wanted. This beats the hell out of the typical senior that just stands there and smiles. He couldn't wait to start climbing so after a couple typical poses, I let him loose.

(I know I cut off the hand haha. I've been using my 70-200 so much now that I sometimes overlook when I'm shooting with a prime)

I am considering selling my 16-35 L and 50 1.4 and just buy the 35 L.

Did anyone own a 16-35L and replace it with just the 35L? Do you miss the 16 mm end?

I have used my 16-35 so much over the last few years but I feel like I'm ready for something new. I would like to think that the 35L would allow me to take beautiful landscapes shots as well as portraits.

Any thoughts?

If you are into landscapes a lot I think you would miss it. The 35L is pretty versatile but there is just to replacement for 16mm with landscapes! When I have only my 35L on me for landscapes I find myself doing a lot of panos.

That was definitely first time I saw a rainbow like this. I could not believe my eyes when we walked out from the forest and out on the cliff. I almost became like the crazy rainbow dude from the famous Youtube-vid. lol

Got there just in time, because the rainbow vanished 2 minuits after.

Thanks for your replies. I am unsure whether I am or want to be into landscapes that much anymore. I think I might hold on to the 16-35mm for a while, buy the 35L, see how I like it during the next summer months and holidays, and then decide whether I should sell the 16-35mm.

After a year of staring at this thread, I finally pulled the trigger last week. Just in time for the holidays...

Getting used to a Prime will take some time, I had a session with a friend this weekend so I gave the new lens a shot. Please let me know your thoughts, just starting to dabble in family photography.

Thanks, but it is a single file, edited in Lightroom. :)

I was standing on a pier, just taking shot after shot after shot until I finally got a good one.

The trick is that there were people to the left of me, throwing pieces of bread into the air. The birds flew by trying to catch the bread. This went on forever, and it allowed me to get real close with the 35L. :)

Because the birds would have to be so close? I think that's the point of the whole 'people were throwing bread at them' part, i.e. they were flying close.

I WANT THIS darn tootin freaking lens. I am soo sooooo close to buying it. SO CLOSE!
