You should have seen the (virtual) drool coming out of my mouth during the entire wedding I shot w/ this baby this past Saturday. Shot after shot I was in such extreme shock by how amazingly sharp the photos were. Then when I started editing in Lightroom, the drool just increased. I can't get over how amazing the 35L is and I don't know how I lived with out it before!!

I`m so torn on this lens (in a good way), it seems like such an amazing performer but I prefer the fov of the lens on a FF. I keep telling myself to buy this lens, use it as a near normal on my crop cameras today, and enjoy it even more when I do get a FF camera. The other part of my says get the 24L as it will offer similar performance and fov for my crop that I want from 35/FF. Can anyone who`s used both comment - would I be missing anything on 24/crop?

I had the 35L on my old 40D for a month or two before I got the 5DmkII.
http://www.vimeo.com/2472005
Is a video I put together for my client from a shoot with just the 40D and 35L. Trust me, this lens performs just as good on a crop as it does on FF. Granted, it's slightly longer on crop - it's still a solid performer. The 24L is beautiful too. Can't go wrong.

When do you plan on going FF? I think you voted 35L on my poll :
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61710 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=617107)7 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=617107)
I've seen some really great shots with a cropper and a 35L, so therefore I'm most likely going with 35L regardless of the outcome of my poll.
Besides, the 35L is part of the holy trinity! and rated higher on Fred Miranda because it is said to produce slightly better IQ. I tested both the 24 and 35 focal lengths with my 24-105L and the difference only seems to be about 2 steps.

Thanks Pat and Dan - I look at the 35L as a longer term investment I guess. I do like the 35mm fov on crop, and on FF, whereas the 24L might be too wide for my prime tastes when I eventually flip to FF.

I think you'd be fine at a small venue with 1-2 primes for shooting a band, but when you get to the bigger venues and your position is out of your control, that's why those guys a rocking a couple of zooms like a PJ would. Well done considering!

Thanks! A 50 1.4 woud have been a dream come true. I was going to bring my 24-70 but I was afraid of bringing more lens (no professional cameras allowed) I got yelled at 3 times for my gear. I just kept saying that they told me it was fine ;)
I have a ton more images, some really good ones, I shot mostly manual focus the whole show as I had to left the camera up to avoid the 3 heads in front of me...worked like a dream as Im quite good with live view...I caught all the action shots at the end in focus too  Ill post em up tomorrow

I had the 35L on my old 40D for a month or two before I got the 5DmkII.

Is a video I put together for my client from a shoot with just the 40D and 35L. Trust me, this lens performs just as good on a crop as it does on FF. Granted, it's slightly longer on crop - it's still a solid performer. The 24L is beautiful too. Can't go wrong.

Glad to bring a smile to your face :)
I handed over my 5D2 + 35L to my father in law on Christmas and he got this photo of my "family" (minus the kitty who was not w/ us for the trip)
It amuses me that we got the dogs to look forward, though granted I did have to hold the beast so he wouldn't go walk away and lay down again.

I've only had this lens for a few days, and I'm still learning to trust it and be comfortable with it (takes a while) - but I'll be adding to this archive shortly.
I'm sure I'll grow to have as much confidence in it as I do in my other Ls, but I've also gotta get used to shooting with this focal length - it's a very unique FL.

48mm, and it's a skylight :D. They actually do something when shooting film, leaves quite a lovely but subtle warmish tint - great on bright days with Kodachrome and Provia.

Yeah I think so, but you want the G-III QL17 version anyway (the one I picture) because it's got the best lens and build. Sometimes it's pretty sweet to shoot meter-free, because you know 100% that if it gets messed up it's your fault. Canonets can be had for so cheap nowadays anyway, there's no reason not to if you can find one for sale.
And if you wanna use metering and Tv mode, you can always just load a battery too, but I don't . The shutter is cocked by the spring load lever that also does the film advance, and even the self timer works battery-free.

Unless you're really serious about it, there's no point spending that kind of money on a film body - after all, the body has no effect on IQ whatsoever. Pick up an old Elan or something for 50 bucks if you're really curious, those bodies are still great - I use an Elan IIe and have no complains. EOS 3 - now there's a sweet camera.

A few from today. It was quite cold (-15C), so I couldn't stay outside long, but had fun taking photos at f/1.4 with my 5D. I can't get over how sharp this lens is wide open! All photos are f/1.4 except the first that is f/2.2. This is by far my favourite lens.

Got this lens yesterday.
Very impressed with the colour, contrast, sharpness and bokeh. Great general lens for full frame- can do landscape, street, candid, wide portrait. Can't see it coming off my camera most of the time. For me 50mm is too tight for a general lens, I love the 35mm FL.
Amazing lens.
This is a crop so its not as sharp as the full image and it was shot through a shops plate glass, but still beautiful clarity.
LOVE THIS LENS!!
