Hello fellow forum members,

I recently purchased a Digital Rebel with the standard lens and am in the position to buy a couple of extra lenses. I have already decided to purchase the 100mm macro so my question is what other lens should I purchase and why?

I wont say that cost is no object but I would be willing to spend upwards of $1,000 for the unknown lens or lenses.

I have looked at the 28-135 USM IS lens as well as the 24-70 USM and 70-200 2.8 USM IS lens. I have ruled out the 70-200 because of price and bulk but am in a quandry as to what other lens to purchase.

Any thought on lenses would be appreciated.

One other thing, most of my photography is cityscapes, old buildings, landscapes and flowers.

The inexpensive 50mm F/1.8 is an excellent lens for low light photography and portraits. However you might want to get a wide angle lens for landscape/cityscape pics.

I think I would go for :

50mm F1.8
28-135 USM IS
70-200 L F4
and the x2 extension
:)

Sorry meant to write:

The EF 2x II doubles the focal length of any lens it's mounted to, and reduces its effective aperture by two stops.

What is the x2 extension?

the x2 extensition is explained at the bottom of the person's post. But it will only work on one of the lens listed and it makes the 70-200 widest aperture 8.0. You would be better off with the 1.4x extender which only loses 1 stop (5.6).
