With the imminent (I hope) arrival of the Mk II, I need to look at how to shift as much data as possible as fast as possible. There are several threads on the forum discussing write speeds of various flash cards, but I don’t know how these compare with microdrives or SD.
Can any of you help by ranking the available media by speed?

In the above link, they hasn't included the new SanDisk Ultra II. I think this is the fastest available for the moment.

It did
The IBM microdrive does not come out of this too badly, its RAW write speed is right up there, I have 2 at the moment and what with the frame rate of the D60 and the write speed of the X Box that just about does it. I may invest in amother IBM MD so that the X Box can keep up!
I am really looking forward to a digital 8fps I may even, finally, consign the EOS 1N to the draw.

The most comprehensive database on CF card performance for individual cameras is available at: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

I don't think you can make any judgement on this until someone has actually tested various types of card in the camera. Reading media specs is not an accurate guide.
As an example, the 10D writes to microdrives MUCH slower than the microdrive specifications suggest it should. There is no indication at present as to whether the 1D MKII will suffer from this problem or indeed some problem with other media types.

For now if you want to by a fast card before the MkII results are in at the RG Database,. chose one of the fast cards listed for the 1D, 1Ds
These two allready share similar preferences for cards (though not identical speeds) so there results should prove to be a reasonable guide. Supposedly,. the MkII should eek even more performance out of the faster cards than the 1D does (and I should hope so! )
