I noticed when you manually set the speed or apature and let the camera set either or....that it always shows under or over exposed. is there more to setting controls in manual or am i missing something?? why not just shoot in auto if that's the case? thanks for your input on this question.

Just set the index wheel at the top to M. You select either f-stop or exposure time by pressing SET. You control these functions by pressing the left and right buttons in the circular array at the right. You have full manual control.

well, dont you think the A70 has a tendency to overexpose (making to light pictures) when you take photos with flash ? - or sometimes the colour dont just seem right? By using manual mode you can correct this - even the force of the flash itself. By correcting the white balance you will get close to perfect colours.
The best way to learn is to try it out. Try to take some night shots with a tripod, using diff exposure times .. and so on. thats cool :-)
