Which converter is best with the Canon EF 300mm f/4 L IS? cos I have seen some very different results: some bads and some excellent shots with TC on the EF 300 f/4 IS?

Its very difficult to find out which TC is used in the different cases. Information given: 1.4x TC.

Is Canon the best TC for this lens? I have also gotten the information that this lens dosnīt take TCīs so well? is this true?

That'll give you some reach. I've got no clue about TC's, but I'm getting interested. On a crop camera, the 300mm will give you a total of 672mm reach! DAMN! On a 200mm it'll give you a grand total of 448mm, which ain't too shabby either!

I think Kenko is the way to go with TC's. I'm curious myself to hear the answer.

My 300m f4 L IS works superbly with the 1.4x Canon converter, on my 5D.

I've used both the Canon and the Tamron SP Pro converters on my 300 f/4....I've had sharp results with both brands at 1.4 and 2x....The only thing you have to remember is that unless you have a 1 series body, you will lose auto-focus with a 2x TC because the lens now becomes f/8...the 1.4x will work fine on any Canon body though, as that only makes it an f/5.6 lens.

Canon versions are the best
Then it seems Kenko Pro 300 models are second best at a good price.
I just purchased a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x for my 70-200mm F2.8L

These Threads may tell you something...
Q about Canon EF 1.4x II and Kenko 1.4x Pro 300 converters (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=278269)

Which Option 70-200mm F2.8L + 1.4x or 300mm f4L (http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=276500)

OK - thanks.
I donīt think a 2x TC will be actual, as I think IQ will suffer too much.

I had excellent luck with the 300 f/4L and a sigma 1.4 EX DG
which if you keep your eyes open can be found pretty cheap used
