I have an S45 that less than a year old and today the LCD stopped working. The backlight still can be toggled on and off by pressing the display button but the screen stays black. During start-up the canon sound plays but nothing on the display nor can I review pictures. I've recharged both batteries to full capacity and have restarted the camera several times.

BTW - The camera has never been dropped or abused in any way. The camera has never seen rain much less had any exposure to water. Although, I have taken 2,973 pictures so far. Is that alot?

Questions-
1) Is there a way to do a full reset. Kinda like pressing the button on the back of an iPaq?

2) Can I reflash the software/firmware (would it even help)?

3) Or I'm I just out of luck and send it to Canon under warranty?

Questions 1 & 2; answer is yes.

I owned a S45 and I remember that there is an option to do a full reset by pressing the menu button while turning in the camera and keep it pressed for about 5 seconds. When you can't anything then press cursor right in the multicontroller and press SET. Re-installing firmware can be done by following the directions on the Powershot website (reset the camera and the option www.powershot.com).

Question 3: Well, if the first 2 options didn't work and there's still some warranty left you're in luck; send it back ASAP.
