Before I had windows XP, I was using Roxio 4.x Easy CD Writer (yeah, right). Now I have XP and have been using Nero 6.0 to burn my photos.

I tried accessing the CD-R that is full of photos burned with Roxio's software and I get a message asking if I want to install Roxio's UDF reader for Windows 95/98 or NT. I'm running XP and I can't install this.

Does anyone know how I can retrieve my photos on this CD with my current Windows XP? Otherwise, I have a CD with all my photos stored from a 2 week vacation that I can't access.

Thanks!!!

UDF means packet writing,. which should mean CD-RW? No?

If it had been standard CD-R media used the burn wuld be an ISO standard CD-R that would be readable on any PC or Mac..

But the earlier CD-RW (re-writable) had this UDF packet write thingy... very annoying.

Sorry I have no answer to the problem,. you might try Adaptec/Roxio's website to see if they have a UDF reader for XP that is compatible with your disks?

See if this works;

It came from this page;

When you eject a disk after recording with Roxio's software, before it ejects, it asks you which format to leave the disk. There are three choices. Only one of them leaves the disk readable by other CD and DVD drives. You may have to install the Roxio software on your machine and finish the disk so it is readable in non-roxio software.

When you burn a CD-R, any current PC and software should be able to read it because it follows a standard protocal. So, if you can't read it with some other software, I have a feeling that maybe you burned the CD-R using Direct-CD (which is normally used for burning CD-RW) instead of Easy-CD Creator. If so, you'll have to use the Roxio software to read the CD and transfer the data to a CD-R in a normal CD-R format.

I have a Roxio CD writer that I just got for Christmas. I hate this damn "install the reader" thingy. When ejecting I always click for it to be able to be played in every player!

Maybe I'm using it wrong?
