Posted this in the wrong section at first. Ooops
This was taken at Venice Beach last October. I'm quite happy with the picture and the editting I've done, and I've submitted it to a magazine but would like some more immediate feedback.
What do you think guys and gals? Marks out of 10?

Very good, but the brighter spot down and left from the sun flare is a little distracting. It doesn't seem to belong.

I think I have to agree about the sun flare - even though its a natural effect.
If I was really feeling picky I'd also say that the "quater of pie" the palms make to the right of the picture is also a little distracting - I'd be tempted to clone out the horizontal one.
Great capture anyway - well done.

PS As I've never been to VB what are the angled structures within the palm trees?

3.5/10
Technically goood.
But no focus to picture, what are we supposed to see? The sun? The people. Too many distrcations.

I have to agree with the above...too much info here to decide what to look at. IMHO some serious cropping is in order. You have some good elements to the photograph, and the exposue and silhouetting is good, as is the lens flare, but I think it needs to be narrowed down to a focus point. I can post what I think would be a better crop, if you'd like.

Personally I liked the sun flare, and I like that there is lots to see, keeps you looking for a while.
BUT, I do understand all the things you've said. Honest thanks. Photoshop, here I come!

If I remember correctly, it's some kind of art. I think I couldn't work out what it was when I was there so it's not embedded in my memory

In my opinion, if you crop the two trees on the far left and all the people standing next to it, it will look 100% better.

That is PRECISELY the crop I was speaking of.....that would make an interesting shot and would still have the lens flare included, and would give a point of focus.

I've cropped it now, but, does anyone think it looks a little unbalanced now?
I cloned out some people on the left to get some more space and bring the sun more central

Unbalanced how? :?
I think that looks much better :D

Because of the empty space on the left, and the sun being pushed that way
