Hello Forum members!
I have been a lurker on this forum for months, but I never felt I could contribute anything of value to this group.
Yesterday I visited the Sammy's Camera in Orange County and ended up walking out with a Canon 300D, the Kit Lens and the 28-135 IS. They had a no sales tax deal going on with the opening of the new store. I never though I would find a hobby more expensive than golf! I talked the salesman down on the price of the 28-135 from $499 to $439. I know I can get a better deal at places like Adorama or BHPhoto, but I am not very patient.
My trusty Powershot G3 will still have a place in my bag, but I think my new 300D will have my full attention for the next few months.

Welcome! And you have made two good choices. You should get some great shots.
We get a little loose around here from time to time, and occasionally we get a little tight. But if you hang around you will learn a lot about photography and your Drebel. :) :D
Have Fun

Congrats!! Hide your credit cards anytime you visit here. We love spending other people's money. ;)
Of course, I'm sure you've already seen that if you've been lurking...

Congrats! You've just bought yourself a very capable set. I see your lurking has paid off. :D
I also agree that the G-3 will make a good companion to the 300D

Welcome aboard.
Your first assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to find, photograph and post an image of a normal, healthy duck. Speices of your choice.
If by chance you live in an area devoid of water fowl (in which case I would suggest selling your current home, purchasing a pick-up and 5th wheel and head to Canada) a suitable subjest with feathers may be used.
Best of luck

Thanks Bruce. I have been contemplating this decision ever since the 300D was released. I didn't want to jump on the Nikon D70 vs. Canon 300D bandwagon, and I knew that I wanted to stay true to the Canon system. I am positive that this purchase will keep me happy and statisfied for a long time...until the need for more lenses arise + a tripod + new bags to carry the equipment +...

I have always felt that most water fowl have been killed by the 'protective' layer of SMOG surrounding Southern California. I will take the assignment, but I am afraid I may shame the noble Goose or Duck with my amateurish skills with this camera. Only with the proper training and perseverance will I succeed!

Welcome to you too Lamplight!
At the rate retailers are selling these cameras, I have a feeling this 'club' will become larger than anyone expected.

Welcome. . . . . you are going to have so much fun. Watch out for certain members who advocate the use of "L" glass. IT WILL COST YOU BIG TIME!!!

I have the G3 and have been considering the 300D for a while now. I have an ad in the local paper to sell my G3 and have had a couple of offers around $400 US, so I think I would be crazy not to sell the camera now if I ever want to upgrade to the 300D.
BUT, I am wondering if I will take fewer pics because it is so much bigger physically than the G3. Do I spend the upgrade money? Can't decide, but can't wait much longer or won't be able to afford to sell the G3 as I am sure it will be worth a lot less in a couple of months with the release of the Pro1.

I have a G3 that pre-dated my Drebel, and I kept it. If the money is the issue, sell it if you must. But I put mine in my car so I have it with me all the time. The Drebel is bigger, and after the "honeymoon" you may find yourself not wanting to drag along the Drebel and all the other stuff that most SLR owners accumulate everywhere you go. The G3 is an excellent choice for that, and it is highly likely that you wont be able to find another small-and-excellent choice with the compactness of the G3 now that Canon has gone the "big honkin' lens" route on the PRO1.
That said, I think you will find yourself taking more shots with each session with the Drebel. It gives great results and will encourage you to do more. Be careful of your credit-card balance, though. You are about to undertake an addictive habit - buying lenses.
Have Fun

Agreed, This is the same logic I used when I picked up my G-5 recently. I feel it compliments my 10D very well. ;-)

I bought my Rebel last week and I think the accessories have surpassed the camera price.

My 300D will be here on Wednesday. It's my first digital camera. Can't wait to use it! Now, if I could just afford some L-Lenses...

Hey, what ever happened to the "angrybunny"?
I have nothing new to report =(
I wanted to go out with the new camera this evening, but a 12 hour day at work killed any will I had left. It is pathetic though, I just bought a new camera with 2 lenses (1 kit) and I am already browsing the most damaging catalog every to grace my mailbox: The BH Photo Catalog.
