Just curious what we are using here for photo editing and related work.
I had assumed we were about 75 percent Windows,.
..but the number was pure fabrication. I'd be curious to know.

This Thread SHOULD NOT Become a contest of one Vs. the Other!!

If this thread becomes a PC Vs. Mac shouting match it will be deleted immediately,
or the offending post will be deleted.

I only add this as I have seen this particular discussion get out of hand in the past elsewhere,.
I know we are above that behavior,.
but you never know who may drop in and add there two cents :)

I considered putting linux in as a second operating system but decided not to. It would have been for curiosity anyway. I'm happy with Xp and am quite use to it.

I run my firewall, web server, email and such on Linux boxes. My apps run under Windows, but I have the Cygwin stuff loaded, so I spend half my time running a "Unix" environment inside my Windows box.

When Adobe puts out a Linux version of PS (and a few other companies do, too) then I'll move over to Linux full time.

XP on the desktops and laptops. Thinking about a Mac laptop as the 2 current laptops are Centrino based and have really poor graphics for editing and viewing.

One PC in the house, running Windows ME - its stable, and I avoid most of the security issues that hit the 2000/XP crowd.

Besides, I fool around with mainframes for a living, I don't want to mess with computers at home, too - I'm just a dumb, happy user at home.

Lol.. same here!!!!! :?

When I fist saw WinXP i said,. "why is it all fluffy like marshmallows"

Then the first time I instaled it I was livid at the default interface "effects"

..I mean ,. here i had just invested in all this super fast hardware, CPU, MainBoard, Gigs of DDR-RAM, and striped RAID 7200RPM HDs...

....and the "fluffy" XP interface makes every window,. every drop down menu , every step you take "slowly fade" into what I can hardly call "action" with the speed of a Pentium 100 and a 2MB S3 Virge graphcs card!!!!!

The first order of business was to figure out how to turn it ALL off.

5x Linux
8x Windows Server 200x
3x Windows XP
1x Solaris
1x FreeBSD
1x OpenBSD
2x Irix

They all run all of the time and perform some kind of relatively useful function every day and that's all at home.

I don't even want to talk about how bad my power bill is. It's not so much the machines, but the A/C to cool it all...

I use a 2.5Ghz P4 running XP Home. While on the road I keep my 2.3Ghz Celeron laptop, also running XP Home, handy.

Two desktops running XP, and one laptop running 2000 Pro. I use Knoppix STD in the laptop sometimes, quite handy  I do all of the photo editing on the XP machines... though I have used Gimp. If I would have known I'd be doing all of this photo editing before I bought my first computer, I'd have bought a Mac. My next one will definitely be a Mac.

I cant for the life of me use Photoshop on a Mac .... I just cant do it with a one button "handicap" mouse!!!! I use up to 3 or 4 fingers at once on my mouse when working in PS on XP... hell Ive even used my pinky to stable my hand on the mouse pad lol

I have 2 computers I alternately use. One is a 1.4Ghz Athlon (Pre XP, Wooo-hoo!) 512MB RAM and 60GB HD running Win 98; the other is a 2.2Ghz w/ 512MB PC 333 DDR SDRAM, and 2x 120GB HDs striped (built 1 1/2 years ago) running Win XP.

Me, I can't stand XP personally. I think that it plain is retarded. This is purely my opinion and nothing more.
