i'm wondering...will they just keep adding up in roman numerals? i.e. mark III, mark IV, mark V etc? since the 'eos 1d(s)' bit isn't changing any time soon...
perhaps alter the suffix to have 1d as flagship (a mark number follows) and another 1d(pick a letter!) for the 1.3x version. though there is masses of speculation towards the merging of the two lines a-la-nikon d2x cropping stylee for high fps. given that the price of the 5d plummeted pretty rapidly I can't see why this is not a realistic proposal...but I digress...
roman numerals ad nausiam? yey or neigh?

the unluckiness of 4 in asia makes me wonder if the new camera will be called 40d, notice there was no G4

Actually, it's not the digit itself that is unlucky, but rather the pronounciation of the number (which is apparently close to the word for death in several languages). Thus, there should be no problem with a 40D, since that number (forty) has a different sound.

(Or at least that's how this westerner understands it.)

yup, in japanese, it's 四(し or よん) and 四十 (よんじゅう) the problem is in the pronounciation し (shi) which is also represented by the character for death (死)... that means we will see the 40d (not sure if it may be rebranded for china or korea though)

as for the 1 series, I hope they do just adding onto the roman numerals. as I've stated before, I like the sound of "one dee mark three"
very easily rolls off the tongue :)
