This is a shot I took at zull (optical) zoom with my S400 (Ixus 400). There's quite a lot of darkening around the edges and perhaps more worying, there's a soft spot in the bottom right hand corner where the focus was out.

Fortunately I haven't been able to reproduce this, but I'm wondering whether others have had similar problems?

I think you'll find most people round here would recommend that you don't use digital zoom at all.

Try taking the photos at the largest size possible with full optical zoom, then crop them or zoom in on the PC instead if you have to.

That said, I haven't noticed the problems you're experiencing on my own camera.

Err, if you read what I wrote properly, you'll see that the picture is a full optical zoom

hmm... ive only seen that corner darkening happen on wide angle shots with no zoom used at all.

im not sure what the softness problem is but am interested to see if anyone else has experienced it.

good luck.
