I have a 400d (XTi) I have only had it a few months (it is winter here so I have not had much outside play with it...lol)
Anyways my questions is:
I am going to go "Play" with the camera at my nephews soccer game this weekend and it is indoors, can anyone give me some helpful hints as to what to set the camera too (did I mention this is my 1st Dslr) I also can not do a lot of running around beacuse I am 7months pregnant.
Thanks a bunch
p.s. I am so happy to find this forum, I want to learn this camera. :D

do you usually set it to the green box or are you comfortable adjusting iso, f stop and such?

well i *probably take the 18-50 with you to the game because it has a faster aperture. you can set that lens to f/2.8 and the 55-200 to f/3.5 (i believe). Try to use a fast shutter speed, a high ISO, and a small aperture. have fun and good luck. hope that helps and makes sense.

Of course, the 55-200 will be easier for you to use since it has longer reach, but since it's indoors, you might have to max out your ISO to 1600 because that lens isn't very fast. It depends largely on how well lit the complex is. If your shutter speeds are slower than 1/100 or even 1/200 with the 55-200, then switch to the shorter lens or else the majority of your shots will be blurry.

Should I have my flash on? And I guess I should use the TV mode? For shooting indoor soccer (kids soccer)
thanks again

As has been said before, a lot will depend on how good the lighting is on the indoor field. I'd probably start by shooting in Av mode, selecting the largest possible aperture (lowest f-stop number), and setting the ISO to 1600. Then, you can take some test shots (or just point the camera around and depress the shutter button half way) and see what shutter speeds you are getting. I'd want to have 1/200 or faster. With the aperture wide open and the ISO at 1600, if your shutter speeds are too low, you can go to manual mode, use the same aperture and ISO settings, and also set the shutter speed where you want it. Your pictures may then come out under exposed, but if you shoot in RAW you can up the exposure during conversion. IMO, it is better to have sharp, under exposed pictures than it is to have properly exposed pictures that are ruined by motion blur because the shutter speeds were too low.
Also, be aware that if your lenses have a varying aperture (i.e. the 55-200mm has a max aperture of f/4 at 55mm but drops to f/5.6 at 200mm), you may get different exposures at different focal lengths in manual mode as you zoom in on your subject.
