View Full Version : Disabling iPhoto's auto-startup when inserting memcard

Whenever I insert a memory card in the reader on the Mac at the job (running OS 10.4), iPhoto pops open. Well, "pops" not really the word, let's say it wakes up slowly. This uses most of the computer's limited ressources (800mhz, 512mb ram), and even "Force quitting" it can be time-consuming. I saw nothing in iPhoto's preferences to de-activate auto-activation. I saw options (in Control Panel?) for CD/DVD auto-play, but nothing about mem-cards. Maybe there's a hack or hidden settings to achieve this?

It's more of an annoyance than a real important issue, but I'd really like iPhoto to stay shut. If and when I want to use it, I'll open it.

I believe you need to start the program Image Capture, and then under Preferences, select "No application" under "When a camera is connected, open:."

 Good advice, thank you! Very simple actually. To my defence, I didn't know Image Capture was installed on this computer.
