Studio Lighting Dummy - PLEASE HELP!!

Hi all,

Ok well I bought some lighting. Yay for me - but I have absolutely no idea what to do now.... It's all still in it's box waiting for me to carry it home and set it all up. Then I read some more on the forum and now I am severely confused. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a Canon 400D/XTi and the main thing I have learned today is that it does not have the right connection to trigger the lighting (2 x flash units). So I need to buy an adapter.

Here come the questions:-

1. Do I need to buy one that acts as a transmitter, and then one receiver for each unit?

2. If I just buy a hotshoe to PC adapter & put it on the adapter - is there anything else I need to get?

Since you have never used the gear, I suggest you delay the radio sync for now (transmitter and receiver).

Get a hotshoe to PC adapter for your camera, and if your flash gear did not come with a sync cord, a 15 foot (or so) sync cord that will fit your particular flash unit. Most studio flash units now have built in optical slaves, so you only need a cord to one flash head, the others will fire automatically via the optical slave function.

After you understand the basic function of the gear and become aware of how to use it, you them may want to get the radio slave set.

You will always want to have a cord backup, so start with the cord.
