I am drooling all over the MarkIII, but I think it would be a good idea to keep the 1D for a second body - as I shoot mostly sports.

Agree?

Time to start saving up pennies

If you can keep it as a second, definetly

by the time I save up enough for the MarkIIN, it would make more sense to save a couple hundred more for the MarkIII.

You are probably right. I will be selling a 1DMIIN sometime in the next couple months ;)

Just put it towards a MKII or MKIIn. They will sell for great prices as people try to sell to buy the MKIII

You'll probably be able to get a MKII for like 2k soon enough. That's near 2k less than what the MKIII would go for. Maybe the N would go for around 2500 soon enough. So there are significant savings.

I'm keeping my N series, the 3 series is a good upgrade, but nothing significant, 2MP more and better dynamic range at 3200 and 6400, and sensor cleaning, not worth the upgrade to me, well yet anyway.
It seams most people upgrade to have the latest camera (the best avaialble) although nothing really wrong with that, if you have the money go spend it, but do they really NEED to buy the 3 series or do they just WANT to buy it.

??? Have you read the white paper at all?

1.5x the speed of the latest 1D with dual processors, dial in focus adjustments for any given lens that is front/back focusing, virtually no noise at 3200 due to the redesigned sensor grid, AF sensitivity adjustments, 10 fps, wireless lan support via EOS utility, redesigned shutter design for longer durability, silent shutter mode, highlight processing, mini-me RAW file support (sRAW), etc. The list of "good upgrades" is pretty darn extensive all for the $4K range.

With a new 16-35 2.8 coming out, watch how many folks dump their MKI version too. The SALE forums are going to be busy.

yeh i kno the upgrades, i couldnt be arsed to re gurgitate all the details, as you have most probably read them.

But is there really a actual NEED to upgrade, as most people on this forum are hobbyists, with the exception of some pro's. Do we use the cameras to their full potential, certain functions, and custom finctions.

no need to argue, just airing my views.

I like the idea of silent shutter mode, but I read that at normal shooting its 77Db and silent shutter mode is 70DB, so not much of an decrese.

That is true, but that is what keeps the market running! No difference in the car market, I had a Z06, but did I ever use it to its potential? Probably not, and now I want the newer C6 version. Same analogy, I guess, as to what you are bringing up. I do think the upgrades/enhancements are more than trivial in this case (as compared to the examples of the 400D and the 30D compared to the 350D and the 20D), and those folks that take a ton of pictures, the enhancements should all end up meaning a higher keep ratio and less post-processing workflow, so yes, they will upgrade. For the casual among us, probably not.

I just care about the higher ISO performance and improved focusing. Everything else is nice but not needed by me.

Crash - I plan on keeping my 1D to use as a remote and dumping my 20D. My 10d will stay with me forever.
