I like the light. I would have gotten closer and turned the camera vertically, so the tree and ivy filled the frame. You could also crop what you have, but you'd have more data if you filled the frame. I might also choose to have one of the ivy vines that traced diagonally across the composition be a central feature, adding the graphic nature of the vines to the texture and color of the bark, leaves, etc.
A couple thoughts.

Bravo!!!
My only suggestion if any would be to move it more the the left. The tree itself will be the border. Have you thought about macro??? Might be cool.
cheers!! :D

The image is drab and lifeless, the main reason for that is because it has a bluish cast - try a little post processing using the curves & levels, etc and I think you might start to see some of the colours begin to stand-out in the picture.
I've already tried it on my PC and those "spring" greens to the right really help to accentuate the dark green of the ivy. Mind you, it might have been better if there had been a little more ivy on the trunk.
Post the altered image and let us see your results.

Subject and lighting are great, but this is crying out for a vertical frame. Also, there is a colour cast (blue/cyan) that needs to be corrected.
