I'm not sure what he's up to.. I know he's plotting a new camera for the trip and he promises that I can play with whatever he gets.. But, we shall see.. I wouldn't be suprised though..

the actual samples on the canon site look a bit soft to me which is somewhat suprising but maybe they were not expertly processed or something, more likely i'm not used to viewing full sized images?

Quite honestly I don't see why we're fussing about cameras. The image is what's important - the cameras are all so good now that they're all pretty much the same.

can they all take great images, sure, but how you get it is whats important. For those with the most depmanding of needs, this cam is able to meet those where as a different cam won't.

I think it's about the individuals needs. We all have wants/desires with our kit.. Some have to have telephoto. Some crave ultrawide, high ISO capabilities, some want fast some want compact.. It's like finding the perfect pair of shoes. they fit, they meet and sometimes surpass your needs/desires. and when that happens it's time for celebrating!!.. I personally don't need the new 1DMK3.. But, I can absolutely appreciate that excitement that other shooters are experiencing because they do...

I find it very interesting that Canon seems to be concentrating on 12mp cameras. I wonder whether the new standard will be 12mp just as the old standards were 6mp then 8mp. I imagine the next standard will be 16mp.

Having said that, since 90% of images are only required to be a maximum of 10x8, more than 3 megapixels is a little bit of overkill most of the time. My wedding photographer used a 6mp camera. That was perfect for 10x8s. We purchased a single 10x8, three or four 5x7s and a couple of dozen 6x4s. I reckon that's pretty standard fare for weddings? I do realise that some applications might need larger sizes which does run into the problem of just where you get them printed!

Come to the US where almost all the fun things are permitted instead of prohibited. I had a blast a few days ago putting 50 rounds each through a .357 magnum and a 9mm automatic at a local pistol range. Given the scary people around, it makes sense to protect yourself and your investment in cameras.
