Today the announcement of the 1D MkIII; is it likely there will be more anouncements of 'serious camera' upgrades (5D, 30D) the coming days? Or is this the only new product we're getting this time?

No one knows for sure.

It is probable that Canon will release more new equipment at PMA and it is possible other equipment might be announced later in the year. (Personally, I think the bulk of it will be announced at PMA.)

IMO, it is highly likely the 5D and 30D will be upgraded this year.

Canon actually announced several new cameras yesterday and I would assume that since no mention was made of a new 5D or 30D it will come in Aug. if at all. Here is the link:

According to Photographyblog, Canon denied that there would be any other cameras announced before or during PMA.

it would really be too bad if no other updates were coming

This does seem a little weird that Canon would release all of these new camera's several weeks before PMA. If indeed, there will be nothing else released, then it would seem that people would be spending all of their time at Nikon's booth during PMA to see what they will release to compete with Canon's new lineup. I was hoping that we'd see at least 2 of the 4 SLR's rumored to be upgraded (30D, 5D, 1DMKIIN, 1DsMKII). I still think Canon is holding something back for the show (and my intuition tells me that its the upgrade to the 1DsMKII, as it's the one model that is the oldest of all of them)

Well... although it isn't unusual for official releases to be announced before PMA, I sure hope you are right about a few surprises being in store!

If I were betting, I'd say that the products Canon announced are all they're going to introduce for now. Given their past history in terms of product cycles, they'll probably upgrade the 5D and/or 30D in the fall just prior to Photokina.

:D I'm just happy they dropped the price of the 30D. :D

There flagship is the 1Ds so if they are holding on till PMA that will be it. I hope so as it will drop the price of the 1DsMK2 and they will be cheaper to get secondhand as the pros upgrade :)

I'd bet money that there is a 1DsMkIII release at PMA and that they wanted the 1D Mk. III to have it's own spotlight for a bit.

Damn!
I was thinking of buying the 1ds mk 2 in two weeks time when I go to Hong kong. Whats the betting that as soon as I do, the new updated camera will come out?
I will have paid the full price for the mk2 just before it drops to make way for the new mk 2 release.

There'll be no Photokina in 2007. It's held every two years.
