Hello,
Im looking for a lens to replace my kit lens that will let me shoot outdoor scenery (like lakes and sunsets) and good sharpness for shooting black and white.
Im not looking to spend a lot of money so im looking for nice but not top of the line. Here is what I have been considering:\
EF 24mm f/2.8
EF 28mm f/1.8
EF 28mm f/2.8
or
EF 50mm f/1.8
I dont know about the 50 because it probably wont be wide enough to shoot landscape.
If there is one on this list that jumps out or something else i havent listed please let me know.
Thx
Chris

brilliant black and white lens too!
i dont have any of the others you mentioned but here is a vote for the nifty fifty!
a few others using the fifty i know there not landscapes but i could get away with landscapes with this lens i believe

i do plan on getting the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 eventually but i think it will be to narrow to get shots like these.

The 50 1.8 is a great cheap lens. I think every photographer should own one, just because it's so cheap and so good. The optics are pretty damn impressive, especially for a $70 piece of glass. If you feel you might need a bit more reach, the 28mm is a better option.

I think for this the 24/2.8 is a good lens and is sharper than the 28/2.8, the 50/1.4 might be a better choice than the 50/1.8 unless price is a real issue.
The 28/1.8 is a great lens for low light and DOF control but the edge sharpness is not ideal for landscape work.
I assume you are shooting a 1.6X crop camera in which case you have nothing for the wide end, although the 18-55 kit lens is not too bad at the wide end stopped down.
A good allround classic solution is the 17-40 f4L, this will also work well as an utra wide to norm for full frame and is quite afordable for an L lens. A crop only alternative is the rather expensive EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS.
If you want really wide on crop my recommendation would be the EF-s 10-22.
I have some lens info tables with test result links you might find helpfull here http://www.zen20934.zen.co.uk/photography/Lens_Table.htm

Lester thanks for the help.......i looked at your link and i think i will try the 24mm f.2.8.
I do plan on buying the 50 1.8 in the near future but not for scenery.
