Do you allow or encourage couples to view your photoshop layouts before you order the actual book? Do you have them pick out their favorites before you start the creation? Just wondering :)

Absolutely, I give customers all the control they want, within reason. Before I send a book for printing I give them a printed proof and ask them to initial each page, then sign my album design contract. This says they have seen the album, they've approved it, everything's spelled right, the images are correct, etc.

How large to you print the proofs?

Small. The openings (ie 2 facing pages) are each 14x10, so total 28 inches across. Currently i'm printing 4 openings per A4 page.

That's a great way of doing it Tim, to have a 2nd contract just for the album! No chances of mistakes or misunderstandings there. Thanks for your input!

The way I am currently doing it is that I let my clients view the proof version online (so, the Photoshop layout). I want to get them to confirm the final product before investing any money in it and perhaps resulting into potential conflicts. But I like the idea of the album design contract.

Tim, great...I think I may adapt that...It takes longer to get the book done, but yet you know everyone will be satisified when they get it...

online proofing makes this easy, but yeah never just print before showing.

Gary Fong's predesign method really does work well
