I just bought an S50, and after looking at the first batch of pictures I took with it, there's a big obvious blue spot near the middle on every one (it's about 12 pixels wide, I'm guessing due to JPEGging the dead pixel; I haven't had a chance to check it out in RAW mode yet).
I searched around and found some posts (various web sites and newsgroups) from people who've sent their Canons back for warranty dead pixel service, and some got the camera back unfixed, and others got a different camera with different dead pixels.
Some of the posts I've read recommend just living with it, since it's so hard to get one with no dead pixels, and you're likely to get more over time anyway. Does anyone have more experience with that? Is it really as tough to get a clean image as some of these posts are saying? I find that hard to believe, since my last digicam, which is now about 3 years old, still has no dead pixels. On the other hand, that one's only 2 megapixels, so there are fewer pixels to go bad.
