View Full Version : Is it hard to get camera w/o dead pixels?

I just bought an S50, and after looking at the first batch of pictures I took with it, there's a big obvious blue spot near the middle on every one (it's about 12 pixels wide, I'm guessing due to JPEGging the dead pixel; I haven't had a chance to check it out in RAW mode yet).

I searched around and found some posts (various web sites and newsgroups) from people who've sent their Canons back for warranty dead pixel service, and some got the camera back unfixed, and others got a different camera with different dead pixels.

Some of the posts I've read recommend just living with it, since it's so hard to get one with no dead pixels, and you're likely to get more over time anyway. Does anyone have more experience with that? Is it really as tough to get a clean image as some of these posts are saying? I find that hard to believe, since my last digicam, which is now about 3 years old, still has no dead pixels. On the other hand, that one's only 2 megapixels, so there are fewer pixels to go bad.

I've had my Powershot A70 since August now, and no problems with dead pixels, and neither of my friends have gotten dead pixels with their cameras either.
Just heard of people having it, but the problem you're describing is nothing familiar.

Maybe it's different depending on where you live on how good the service is...

Return it in exchange for a new one. Dead/bad pixels that can be seen in every image are NOT acceptable with a brand new camera. Check to make sure the lens is clean also, sometimes a dirty lens will cause strange discolorations in your images.

I've owned 6 Canon digicams in the past 2 years and none of them have had bad pixels in the sensor. Now the LCD display is a different story...
